Proving Innocence

So I recently had chat restrictions placed on my account after a game with someone who decided to be salty. Instead of them admitting to making a mistake - which I pointed out nicely - they used vulgar language and verbally attacked me. Now I know people can lose their cool sometimes, but after the game, I reported them due to them threatening to report me for no particular reason, as well as the verbal abuse. What happened after the game? I got restrictions and they - as far as I know - did not. Is there a way to prove my innocence as I feel I've been trolled by someone abusing the automated system? Also, I'd like to point out that I get honoured for being friendly often. I was even honoured for being friendly during the game that got me the chat restrictions. Two games later, I got honoured again. So I feel I've been cheated of being able to communicate with my teammates when pings aren't enough, or I wish to encourage them with "gj" when they make a good play. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

How do you know they didn't get chat restricted? What did you say when you 'nicely' pointed out their 'mistake'? I'm goin to go out on a limb and assume it wasn't as 'nice' as you think it was.

There's a notification that pops up. I didn't get one, so I would say it's safe to assume they got away with trolling me by falsely reporting me. Plus, they also told the enemy team to report me, so someone could have easily jumped aboard that request. I'm looking for proof, so if I can't be provided with the chat log from RIOT, then you will just have to take my word for it, which you seemingly already doubt. He used profanity, as well as another teammate, basically telling me that I suck and that I should uninstall. [They] didn't like the fact that bot lane got destroyed, then when I said nicely - yes, nicely, I did not use profanity, anything of that nature - that [he] should stay in his lane and not engage in a fed lane, he acted like a child (ie: saying "you started it"). So if I'm going to get restrictions because I'm having a conversation using words without profanity and the other person isn't even getting a slap on the wrist and gets away with ruining my gaming experience, I have no faith in this reporting system. I have kept my nose clean because I see people argue, then someone doesn't like what's said and they feed. I then of course have to report the intentional feeding - because they literally walk into towers and die - because someone doesn't know how to handle themselves.

You only get that notification if your report of the game was the one that caused him to be put under punishment. It does not show all the time.

I really wish they would remove that notification, because it causes people like this to complain about something when they have no clue if they were or weren't punished.

That's not true. I've been in party where several people reported someone. When the penalty applies, everyone got the notification.

I think you miss-interpreted what Kaleb means.

You don't get the notification unless it was that game that was the tipping point for the person reported. If this person travels on into his next game and gets reported+punished from that one, you will not get the notification.

In your situation, since the person was handed a punishment directly from reports in the game your party was in, everyone that reported that player that game would have received the notification.

I didn't check my email until just now. I did, but it doesn't show anything except for what I said, which doesn't help me in any way at all. Basically the guy started the verbal abuse with "our support has downs", and I said, "no, you do". He continued to berate me with profanity and comments about how I "suck" and I used words like "are you 12?", "bronze?", "if you had a brain". Sure, they aren't positive things to respond with, HOWEVER, when someone swears at you and doesn't leave it alone, the punishments should be the same. So unless someone can prove that this person - who was being very toxic to the point where another teammate told him to stop talking - also got punished, this system is lopsided. The odd thing is, I got honoured for being friendly during that game - I was very encouraging at the very beginning, like any other game. So how does one get friendly, but also get chat restrictions from being reported? Seems hypocritical to me.

The chat logs sent only contain what you sent because you are only punished for your own individual actions.

In the comment I'm replying to, you admitted to retaliating using verbal abuse. That's enough warrant a chat restriction on your account. Also, swearing isn't reportable unless it's used against another player in a hostile, unwelcome tone.

No one has to prove anything to you about whether or not the other player was punished to validate the current system, because whether or not the system is performing its functions has nothing to do with how aware you are of the functions it performed. Whether or not you got honored by a particular player carries no weight when determining the validity of a report, as it shouldn't.

To be quite frank, it's none of your business. Their punishment is between them and Riot, unless they decide to make their punishment known on the boards.

If someone is being toxic towards you and a teammate. Mute them and continue playing to the best of your ability. Do not turn around and become toxic yourself as that just opens you up for justified reports as well.

Yeah, you pretty much said it. Regardless of how I view my tone, the other person's interpretation is ultimately what decides things. We both deserved punishments, but obviously the best thing to do is to ignore the person when they deny doing something wrong. It really came out of me telling him to stay in his lane and him getting salty, then me getting dragged into it because he started insulting me. Asking if he is in bronze isn't offensive, it's simply a question, however, when someone threatens to report you, there is that need to defend yourself, which in this case - for lack of a better word - backfired.

Asking someone if they're bronze is, in fact, offensive majority of the time, because of the context in which a player is asking. Just like when you ask someone "Are you retarded?" Whether or not they actually suffer from mental retardation or if they're bronze is irrelevant to the current game, and it's being used to imply that they are "lesser" than you in some sense or that they belong in Bronze because they're bad in your eyes.

So yes, questions can be inherently offensive. Besides, you yourself admitted above as well that you asked it with the intention of berating the player's current performance.

Also, that need to defend yourself is something you should learn to contain, as it only feeds into their toxicity and makes things worse. If you really want to finesse on them, just mute and let your skill do the talking. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Well put. I don't get offended easily, so if someone asks if I'm Bronze, I just answer them, or ignore them. After all, rank doesn't mean anything from what I've experienced.

They basically argued that they didn't engage when they did. That should have been the end of it, but it wasn't. Now I'm done with my chat restriction, but still unable to collect loot. Definitely not worth trying to "set someone straight" when they make a mistake, but how else are people supposed to learn? Takes a certain breed of human to realize not everything spoken on the internet is offensive.

Shouldn't have to defend myself - clearly I forgot that. The lane was getting wrecked, so in that case, I should have just let the game go until 20 and surrendered with the team. Could have just walked away and started a new game with no issues and without that person.

Okay, try and imagine that everyone is on a track. I don't play much and I never flame back, so I'm at the beginning. I'm not sure what punishment you are on, so you might be a little bit ahead of 10 or 25 chat restriction. You don't know how far this other person is along the track. You ASSUME they are close to a punishment, but you don't KNOW. They might have been having a really bad day, one of a few, and they didn't get a restriction.

If you reported that person, they got pushed along the track. No one needs to prove it to you. You deserved the chat punishment for retaliating in a very non-helpful way, and the other person deserved to be pushed along the punishment track.

Sincerely doubt a single incident w/o strong language resulted in a chat restriction.

You'd at least get the "you've been a bad boy" popup a few times first.

Unfortunately there is no way to prove your innocent as once the system triggers it triggers. What's sad is that the system is designed to be abused this way, yet riot doesn't care to change it..
