Riot has been toying around with the idea, there's no official confirmation yet. It's just like sandbox for the most part, they like the idea of it, but it's on the back burner and likely won't show up for 4-5 years if ever.

This is one reason why i just dont see something like this happening in league. Its not really "needed" as chat works just fine. But the main concern would be to monitor. Its already a hassle when you have someone breaking the rules, and adding this would just make it too complicated.

Chat sucks. Here are all of the issues with chat:

If you are typing, you can't play
It takes a lot longer to type than make a call on a mic. One second and not making a call can be a game changer.
It's hard to understand tone via chat. I'm not sure if the GG's I see are actually sarcastic or not.
Premades with mics have a huge advantage over chatters. It's not even a question.

There's a reason the pros use mics and don't type. The game even pauses if a mic breaks. Communication is just too important.

This is going to improve the game a lot. The kids BMing won't have the self confidence to get on the mic and not get clowned.

Why would it need to be policed by Riot? If it's for sake of toxicity, then use the mute button. Why bother having a mute button if you never use it?

Because the rules are rules. Follow them and play or don't follow them and get punished.

Mute everyone.

I left Call of Duty because I didn't want to hear pre-teens and teenagers yelling into my ear. I also stopped liking Call of Duty around that time. I'll just mute each and every voice chat for ingame client because I honestly don't want to hear the same voices I heard back in Call of Duty in League.

The new client is coming. If they were going to do it that is when they'll do it.
