Held Hostage in Game

League of Legends Match History

SO I just played this ARAM which lasted 45 minutes. It SHOULD have ended in maaaybe 25, except:

  • The enemy team refused to win
  • My team refused to surrender

We got Stomped. The gold graph doesn't show exactly how far behind we were (cause hey, it's ARAM), but they had taken our inhib by 17 minutes, and we got theirs 40 minutes in. I am not a good player any more, and the rest of my team was also outclassed; they certainly couldn't carry me.

Every fight was the same: they'd ace us, then whoever was still alive would run past the open nexus and suicide en-masse. Adding up their deaths, you can see the total number of executes: 14. The only reason the game even ended is that the death timers let us respawn and take a single objective before the enemy team revived and slaughtered us again. Then they'd all die in our fountain and the cycle repeats. This could have gone on for hours.

I don't know why two of my teammates wanted to keep playing, but winning in the end didn't make it feel any better or worthwhile. Officially, I can't leave, or stop contesting, under penalty of the leaver or report systems. I was trapped in this miserable game where the enemy didn't want to win, only kill us over and over and over and over again.

Is there any official rule against this? Refusing to win? Torturing your opponents? Could there be one? It was a horrible experience and i'd like to avoid it ever happening again.

Technically it’s abusive and reportable, but Riot won’t take action against it. It’s a rare occurance, and all you can do is just suffer through it.

Yes this is a venting thread. Yes I believe this is a serious problem that warrants discussion.

lol this is hilarious. sounds like everyone had a good time. not ending and giving you all repeated chances to win is very nice of them. I wish my enemies ran into the fountain more often?

Ah yes, I also made at least 1 thread about this, there is just too much power given over you in a 1v9. But it's more hair pulling in SR than HA, imo. So if there's ever any punishment for it, should be smaller than in SR. Cus ARAM is meant to be silly and fun.

There was a game like this in Ascension where the enemy team essentially held the team hostage to force a surrender. They even made a video about it posted it to youtube and bragged how they held teams hostage and they all got banned for doing it.

There isn't, because technically the people not surrendering are being "positive" unless they express that they are intentionally trying to troll the other 3 people (which they won't).

And if you happened to get mad and retaliated, Riot's system would punish YOU for being toxic without caring about context.

Automated system is annoying, but cases like this should be really rare.

Honestly the only champion that you can control is yours. And I know that you SHOULD try your best to win, but there's definitely ways to speed up a game. Maybe you forget to proc your active in a fight. Maybe you're just slightly out of position while going for inhib. If you don't clear the enemy minions and only fight champs, they'll take your base eventually. None of these are punishable. Just relax, put on some music you like, and play silly. Everyone else is.
