Question: How come riot perma bans for chat?

I'm personally fine with people being P-banned, if they fed, troll, or do that sort of stuff, but it seems weird (To me) that Riot would ban people for typing something, and not just remove their ability to type.

For Riot, this is a player who in the future could spend more money on game, and they would gain the bonus of $$$

For the player, they wouldn't lose their account and would still be able to play the core game, just without being able to chat

For the player's team, they wouldn't know that the toxic player was ever toxic, they would just think they are quiet

If these aren't okay, how about just making the "censor" system prevent those with censors from being able to see messages with rude words in it, or just make 100% censor all rude words to "****"? It would prevent the use of racial slurs, and just be seen as a "I dislike you very much right now" Just my 3 cents

EDIT: Reading comments I'm seeing where you guys and riot are coming from, and while I still think P-ban is a bit harsh for chat, it makes more sense than what it did before

Riot cares more about a healthy environment in which people use chat effectively than they do about the relatively small amount of money they lose by banning some players. Permanent bans work for a vast majority of players - they either leave the game entirely or come back and are not toxic. For those few who do return to keep being toxic, they just keep getting banned.

when toxic players can't express themselves through chat, they will resort to gameplay toxicity

Because Riot wants to bring the community a better and a slightly more welcoming environment that most players bring in other games. Players in other games really show that words do not have consequences that the majority of the gaming society take advantage of. Riot wants players to enjoy their games and learn how to communicate with other players without death threats, sexism, homophobism, and racism.

Before you even downloaded the game, you agreed to these terms. Riot doesn't really care about the money, Riot cares about bringing in more welcoming players to have fun and enjoy their product. Where Toxic players do the exact opposite. Toxic players have no place in this community and Riot is fighting against just that. Play the game for what it is and learn how to enjoy a game without ruining it for other players.
