The surrender timer itself is a really terrible system. Personally every system Riot has implemented is terrible.
The surrender system itself makes no sense. Today in season 6 games are decided in practically the first 10 min because Riot has substantially increased snowballing. Games get out of hand so fast and its impossible for a majority of the player base to recover.
There is no logical reason whatsoever for the surrender timer to be anything over 10 minutes. The system still requires a strong majority vote to be successful. If 4 people dont click yes, there is no surrender.... You can't gimp the system.
I have virtually the same though on ARAM. If I queue up for ARAM and get destroyed in champ select and a teammate is AFK so its a 4v5 slaughter. The fact that I have to just sit around (cant go AFK!) for 15min while we wait for the enemy team to get strong enough to take towers and finally win is probably the most embarrassing thing Riot has ever done. You know with the exception of removing 5's and solo Q.
Someone on here is going to say that a group of 5 players could abuse the system to farm IP. My response to that is it would be so incredibly easy for Riot to scale IP gained after a match by the duration of the match and also include a surrender penalty.
There is virtually no logical reason for the surrender timer to exist at any capacity in all honestly.
