Where League of Legends Fails

The punishment system

The infamous League of Legends punishment system relies on punishment for an undesired behavior. The more frequent said behavior occurs ( in this case dodging or afk) will result in a more harsh punishment. In theory this works .... however when observed in real time it fails.

As everyone knows the punishment system in place has never stopped anyone from dodging a game, a mere bit of wait time will have no effect on anybody. Speaking from experience i have even gotten to 30 mins per game for 5 games low priority queue... and will it ever stop me from dodging again? CERTAINLY NOT , i just watched Youtube or Netflix and waited. A small punishment for the price others have to pay ( in case of AFK) . Many may lose LP , many will have to deal with the knowledge that they are playing a lost game and waste 20 minutes while the dodger perhaps experiences also 20 minute timer to play again.... where is the justice in this?

The justice will be found when this is fixed, Harder punishment and positive reinforcement (Positive reinforcement is a very powerful and effective tool to help shape and change behavior. Positive reinforcement works by presenting a motivating item to the person after the desired behavior is exhibited, making the behavior more likely to happen in the future .GOOGLE) .

  • Make it so that after 5 ranked dodges you receive a competitive cool down of a week. After 10 dodges 2 weeks. More than 10 dodges suspended from ranked season. Do the same for normal queue but a bit more flexible perhaps slightly bigger amount of dodges or AFK before applying harsh punishment( still keep timers after every dodge or AFK )

  • New skins come out pretty frequent so why not create an exclusive skin for a popular champion every 2 months for those who have 0 dodges or AFK? Pretty sure a lot of people would try to get those.... new icons?... new exclusive ward skins? why not????

  • Fix some connectivity issues , Champ select disconnects occur even when people's internet is still perfectly working ( can still stream , use web browsers etc.) but okay lets say this is on us.. that it is our fault , Put a a timer of 30 seconds on ranked champ select lobbies with a banner saying " Player x has disconnected 30 seconds before abandoning" so the player gets some extra time to try to reconnect?, try to add reconnect option on champ select. This will allow the player to restart client instead of being stuck on a screen??? Most popular game in the world .... so this useful option should be easy to add and effective.

Lets make it a better community by reviewing the punishment system and facilitating connectivity issues. ( Feel free to write any criticism of this post in the comment section :D) [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

This is your own personal experience, but this is not true for most people. The vast majority of players do not want to lose LP and get a Low Priority Queue, and it dissuades them from dodging more than they otherwise would. People that get to the max LPQ are very rare. In short, it's actually pretty effective.

I can certainly agree that they may be able to improve how they handle disconnections and possibly make a few allowances for legitimate dodges, but overall I think it's fine the way it is. They certainly don't need to incentivize not dodging. I can see it now; trolls doing everything in their power to convince someone to dodge just so they don't get the rewards. A single occurrence of disconnecting and you miss out. If dodging is that big of a problem, Hextech eligibility would be a reasonable reward for not doing it frequently.
