Disconnected Players Before A Game Even Starts (Loss of Free LP)

I just got through a game where my top laner (Irelia) was disconnected for the entire game, starting from the Loading Screen. The fact that I had to sit through 20 minutes of a 4v5 and still lose LP is ridiculous, to me. Not just me either, my teammates considered. We all had to lose LP because a player decided they wanted to queue into a game with no way of actually being able to play it. Is there something that can be done about the loss of LP, in cases like this?
