An alternative for perma bans for people who show toxic behavior

I've been thinking about this topic for a long time. There are people who get very competitive over league and sometimes let their emotions get the better of them, many times more than once. For some people it is just impossible to control their feelings and what are they left with? a perma banned account. These people who tend to flame their teammates aren't innately trying to lose the game for their team, rather they are trying to win the game and get frustrated when their allies seem like they aren't trying, regardless of whether they actually are or aren't.

Here is were my proposal comes in. How about permanently removing someones chat? Riot has chat bans already, so why not just elevate those temporary chat bans to permanent chat bans. Right now there are multiple steps leading up to a permanent ban, but i feel that words you say on the internet to complete strangers really shouldn't go the full way as to making your time spent go down the tube. As they say sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me. Sure if the toxic player is doing other stuff like purposely throwing or trolling a game, they should be banned from the game, but i just don't see why saying some stuff said should proceed into a permanent ban. I am not trying to encourage toxic behavior, nor saying it is ok, but it does happen and we should accept that the internet is a big place and there is too much anonymity for anything to be taken to heart.

In the end i know it is riots decision on how they want the behavior to be in the game and how they handle it, but I really think that adding perma chat bans would be a very good alternative for people that are outright toxic or people that lose control of their emotions every once in a while. If all a person really does care about is being toxic, they would leave the game on their own accord or make a new account, benefiting those who are somewhat good people and really just have a burning passion for this game. Thank you to everyone that spent their time in reading this! [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

TL:DR- riot should add permanent chat bans for toxic players instead of elevating their temporary chat bans into a permanent ban from the game

edit: i actually just looked at the new section on player behavior and i see that there are other people with the same idea. Sadly it looks like many players do not agree with an idea and apparently riot has already done an experiment and it resulted in the perma chat banned players resulting to other ways of ruining the game. I personally dont think people who misuse the chat are inherently trying to ruin the game for everyone else, but i guess that is not a widely held sentiment that the player base holds. Hopefully riot can try to implement this again in the future as if someone is trying to troll a game, i don't see how with or without a chat would would be a cause of their trolling.

edit 2: dont come here saying that im toxic and to stop being toxic, Im talking as a nuetral party so dont come at me because of a completely valid point that im trying to make

Riot tried this. The experiment failed, as too many players who received permanent chat restrictions found other, harder-to-detect ways of ruining games for other players. So sure -- it might work for some people, but it's not worth the risk of having others ruin the game in ways that can't be identified as easily.

Additionally -- and I know this may sound blunt -- but if you can't behave well enough to be trusted with communication AND can't restrain yourself from communicating on your own, it seems like Riot's stance is that they would rather not have you as part of the community.

Done that. Didn't work. Just stop. If you can't reform after 3 punishments, just leave.

Whether they are or not, the point is that the outcome is the same. At some point the motive becomes less important than the effect.

Hopefully riot can try to implement this again in the future as if someone is trying to troll a game, i don't see how with or without a chat would would be a cause of their trolling.

The results of their experiment make this extremely unlikely, as when players troll with just chat there is an easy fix (the mute button), but if you remove their ability to do that they resort to other, harder-to-detect methods that are more detrimental to game health as they cannot be easily muted.

For some people it is just impossible to control their feelings

Then unfortunately, this game is not for them.

Heya,

Intresting fact, here is a video of an interview with Blaustoise, Riots Gameplay Lead developer, where he expresses that in his opinion chat restrictions should be resolved with mutes and not account bans.

Nevertheless, the members on these forums will always argue that completely limiting someone and stripping them of their accounts where they spend funds on must be the best option.

(Keep in mind negative attitude gets you banned, so agree or leave is pretty much the way things go, atleast thats how I feel at this moment.)
