Reporting still matters

I had a game yesterday, where a player got adc and didn't communicate in pregame chat. (Normal Draft) Everyone was being nice, and our jungler chose Olaf. The player who didn't talk chose what we thought was Nidalee adc, but she took smite. In game she immediately says "Report Olaf. Stealing jungle" and intentionally freeds, runs down our lanes, each time saying "wow so close" Idk who it was, but someone said "9x report" right before the game ended. While you shouldn't say it, I believe that it is completely justified to remind the other players. While in my next lobby, I get a notification that she was punished.

TLDR: The reporting system still works.

this person was probably reported 50x and and got a chat warning. Such success.

I'd like to clarify that the quantity of reports doesn't matter, but rather the quality of each of those reports. If a player is consistently exhibiting toxicity over a wide distribution of games, then that player will receive a chat restriction. After that chat restriction, from what most players report, the system judges the player on a lot harsher scrutiny such that subsequent punishments are applied much faster if the player doesn't reform.

For the most part, the report system does work when looking at a player across a large number of matches, but obviously isn't that noticeable when you follow a player over a sample size of one match. However, improvements can always be made, so if you have any suggestions, I think Riot would be open to solid ideas!

Yeah, people always accuse Riot of having a broken system if someone doesn't get punished after 1 offense. I feel like people would moderate themselves if they were warned that they got reported.
