Yeah, trolls, feeders and inters fucking suck. Millions of us have to deal with them every single day. Surprisingly, (Or not surprisingly if you're part of us) 95% of the community doesn't flame, utter slurs or yell bloody murder if this shit happens to us.

Holding your temper in isn't that hard to do, it's something you learn as you grow up. Throwing tantrums doesn't reward you or punish the wrongdoers or even accomplish anything useful. The only thing it will accomplish is a fast track to getting banned.

Ultimately you are responsible for your own actions. If you get trolled or whatever just report and move on with your life. You might not realize it, but even though trolls and feeders are harder for the IFS to detect, their first punishment is always an escalated 14 day ban, the next is a perma. So yes, Riot does take trolls seriously.

TL;DR: Protect yourself, hold your temper in check, don't utter slurs or hate speech (those will get you an instant 14 day ban) and just report those bastards that think it's funny to ruin everyone's fun.

The point of prisons was to keep criminals off the streets where they might commit more crimes. The idea of using prison to reform people is a modern invention.

Prison was actually effective at what it was invented to do (keeping criminals and dangerous people off the street where they could be committing more crimes and endangering more people), but prison conditions so terrible that people decided those conditions were inhumane. This motivated the modern movement of prison reform.

The whole point of prison is that some people simply refuse to reform. Just saying.

IMO they were right for changing that train of thought, because currently now all prisoners are in for life.

That's why imo countries who toss them in with the hopes of reforming them are better because once they DO eventually get freed there is a much lower chance of them returning, unlike when they're tossed in and instead of picking up ways to get better they get even more fk'd up and turn to even more heinous crimes once they get out which leads them to go back in.

Just a shame not every country feels like putting actual work into fixing that.... It's as if everyone just wants to let the bomb explode without a care just because it's not going to affect them in a few years or decades.

It's a major problem that prison reform has failed in the United States. Prison population is high. Recidivism is high.

IMO, they aren't serious enough about real prison reform. They don't have proper punishments. They don't have proper rehabilitation. It's a very sad state of affairs. There's a lot to clean up...

Oh yea it's hella bad in the US, they don't give a dam about reforming and just want to build more prisons. None of them stay in for life and get even more fk'd up on release. It's for a stupid reason why they aren't I bet to, probably thinking about funding prisons means making money when it's constantly costing lives for them to keep readmitting to prison.

I'm not sure what the exact stats are, that's just a rough estimate, I went on the high side I suppose. I would say the player base that is continually toxic make a up ~3% of the community or less.

Actual continually toxic players should be a smaller percent than that. But I would believe that 3% of the players you run into might be problematic to some degree. A good chunk of those are one-off games, or else on their way to their first punishment, after which many will reform.

Unfortunately, because there are 9 other players in every game, that 3% number results in encountering a problem player in 1/4th to 1/3rd of the games you play. It's amazing how such a small chunk of the playerbase can result in the game feeling like you run into toxic people every other game*.

*Not to say it's truly every other game, but negativity bias can make it feel that way.

5% are toxic enough to get a chat restriction. I believe a very high number of those reform after the first punishment. Unfortunately, it is true that in almost every other game you'll see at least 1 toxic person. However, the number who use hate speech, slurs, etc. are probably a small fraction of a percent.

Basically, yes, it's that high. (Probably because people who get perma'd tend to make new accounts)

Should be higher. I used to keep statistics of toxicity in ranked, and the toxicity rates I recorded were higher than that. Out of 100 sample games in 2017, the rates were:

13% total toxicity (including minor offences such as "gg ez" and report-calling) 6% for medium levels of toxicity and up 2.5% for high levels of toxicity 1.8% for leavers/ragequits/trolls

(Each percentage includes the percentage for the group(s) lower down the list.) (Statistics are for the number of toxic players encountered out of a sample size of 100 games / 1,000 players. The actual percentages of games with at least one toxic player is much higher, at ~73% for all toxicity, ~49% for medium levels of toxicity, and ~22% for high toxicity.)

(Edit: Come to think of it, that's a sample size of 901 players, not 1,000 players. I was in every one of those games. Excluding me, all of the toxicity figures above should be increased by ~11%. So, closer to: 14.5% total toxicity, 6.5% medium, 2.7% high, 2% trolls.)

you're missing X/100 for toxic games, not just players. if two people get into an argument and rile each other up that's still only one game ruined (and i bet sometimes even more joined in).

That's what the second set of percentages are, games with at least one toxic player. Games with two or more still only counted once there.

Its literally impossible for him to have run into "medium toxicity" half the time (49%) while only 6% of the players are toxic. 6% = 6 out of 100 players which is a less than one per game average. (10/100 or 1/10). this is why x/100 is so important for this data and his data is meaningless without it(everything needs context).

You need to check your maths. If 6% of players are toxic, and there are 10 players in every game, that means that there could be toxic players in up to 60% of games. The reason that it's 49% instead of 60% is because there are games with more than one toxic person in them.

If there were more than one toxic player per game, then 100% of games would be toxic...

I'm afraid you are wrong. In almost every game I encounter trolls and toxicity - sometimes it is just a few comments, others it goes on all game long. In my last three games as an example, I had to report one person for racial slurs and another for AFK in game 1 while in game 2 there were two people being toxic to each other. Game three had one person who was toxic. I can guarantee every game I'm in has at least -one- toxic person, and even if the team is winning, so there's no way this is correct. Sorry, but I don't like this flavor of Riot Kool-Aid.

Actually, I very rarely report people personally, and if I do, I certainly won't tell them. Basically for me to report someone it has to be pretty damn bad.

It is possible to give advice in a positive, constructive way without getting reported for it, have you even tried?

Also, for the record, I'm 28 years old, not that age has any relevance to the debate anyways...

I am 42 actually, and I rarely report. I do if it is extreme. That does not mean I have to like it. I am bronze so what. I also am a happy person, and don't have to make other people feel like shit over a game. It is not about saying a word or 2 that is not a issue its when they keep at it all game. If someone is having a bad game why should they hear it all game? they know they are having a shit game it happens. You have all perfect games? I have not even been playing league a year yet so I am still learning it. I just chose to not be an ass hole to people over a game. even if I lose.
