The numerous ways people avoid verbal interactions.

I've heard of at least 15 different ways people avoid chating with other players in solo q and people for as long as the game has been around have been begging for an option to remove the chat box.

i just found a guy who actually disables his enter key while he's playing. now that is just out of control.

is there any reasonable excuse for riot to have ignored this never ending request for almost a decade?

Because it is ridiculous that players are incapable of exhibiting some self control?

Yes. While Riot tolerates people who do not chat, Riot's view is that chat is an integral part of the game - you should use chat when necessary to communicate strategy with your team.

You may have games where chat is unnecessary for the whole game - your team may just synergize well with each other and you don't need to say a word. But that is not 100% of games, and Riot's view is that in the games where chat is needed, you should not be able to prevent yourself from using it.

Further, Riot has found that disabling chat for long periods of time generally causes people to turn to trolling/etc. While this would be a self-disable, I find it likely that a similar thing would happen if this was permitted - people would disable their own chat then begin griefing when they couldn't piss off their team through chat.
