The Matter of Pick Order

Pick Order vs. Call Order - League of Legends Community

Riot said that they encourage Pick Order over Call Order when playing ranked. They also said that they only encourage it, not enforce it. This is meant to help avoid toxicity in cases when a compromise could most likely be met. Another claim they made was that on average, you get the roles you want in a set amount of games because of your order of pick. I've just been through the best example of the worst side of this situation. I have been last pick or near last pick for at least half of the last 10 games I've played and have always been forced into roles that I would rather not play because I played them extensively in several prior games--because I was forced into them. I'd like to try out a new role in a match that isn't full of newcomers by going into ranked, but when there's a Lee Sin locking in for jungle or a Fiora locking in for top without saying anything until it's their turn, it's hard to say the toxicity isn't apparent. Riot, if you want a compromise to be met when selecting champs and you won't enforce the idea, can't you at least more explicitly tell ranked players about compromise? And as for that average preferred role: In the last two ranked matches I was picking champs for, I was first pick and got my role. Then in both of those rooms, someone dodged. Then when I go in for a third time, I'm last pick again. Then I said screw it and dodged when a Lee Sin locked in jungle without saying anything. If Riot wants people to not be toxic in champion select, I expect that they would tell it more openly to the players than what I see from them. As for that average of preferred roles, I think Riot should give you some sort of priority rule in champion select if your last game(s) were dodged.

its a good thing team builder ranked is in the works so that this whole issue goes away. It'll take time to get the bugs out but look forward to a change in the system soon.

They are addressing this issue in the next several patches. Having a preference plus ranked team builder should solve this. Longer wait times? Possibly but you would have the roll you want.

Nah I have no intention of following the meta anyway so pick order has 0 impact on me.

To be fair, saying that you want to try out a new role in ranked isn't helping your case. You should probably learn the role in teambuilder or normals, first, before bringing that role into ranked.
