Protect yourself! Don't flame the trolls!

I'm seeing a lot of threads complaining about getting chat restricted for flaming trolls lately. Yes, if you flame you're going to get punished. Unfortunately the IFS isn't a perfect system, and it probably never will be. There are too many variables to consider when it comes to trolling.

However, there is one part of the IFS that has been performing flawlessly, and that is the chat monitor. If you use any words that are flagged in the system, (the context doesn't matter!) you will get punished.

So protect yourself! Don't flame at these trolls! All you'll accomplish is getting yourself punished! Instead, quietly suffer through that game and report the trolls. Sure, they may not get caught right away every time. But if there's somethind that you can rely on trolls for, it is their consistency. They will eventually get caught and banned! Have faith! Don't get yourself punished!

I'm tired of this old saying. This clearly doesn't work for obvious reasons. A troll has one goal. To torture you, annoy you, pester you, make your game difficult, and etc. They will use any buttons to get you to become hostile so you get suspended while they are free to roam or suspended as well. If this worked, it wouldn't have been a problem for seven years or however long league has had a toxic community.

Reasons why it doesn't work:

  1. They get in your face: If someone was to constantly spit in your face, would you never retaliate? Would you never point it out? Would you never call the authorities?

  2. Their goal is to piss you off. If they are that dead set on the goal, they will. If you fill a bucket with water and expect no water, we have problems.

  3. They are there for baiting people: Just like fish, humans are animals to. Humans will fall for bait. Yes, this sounds like I am dehumanizing, but the point is people need to suck up to the fact they will get baited and let their ego's go.

  4. The punishments are not enough: If the punishments are not enough, a player will see no point in not retaliating. If a troll can recreate an account, then we have problems. Remember that Draven main by the name of Tyler1? He dug under Phreaks skin so much that even he eventually called him scum. He also called his Plat team idiots at some point during one of his streams (separate situation). If he was to say that in chat, he would be flagged. Somehow saying it out loud is better than not while the same standards of the internet, it is easier to say it on chat that in someone's face. Which is it? You say this is the internet and is easier to get out of control with feelings but are saying it isn't? Guess how long Tyler1 wasn't touched? Guess how many accounts he made after he was?

  5. Some trolls are indirect in a direct way. If I say Akali mains are bad and there is an Akali on my team with 0/15, it is clear they are talking about them. However, people will try to rationalize them as just talking in general. If you say directly "Your Akali is trash", oh man, is hell set loose.

  6. If you saw someone trash talking someone irl and they retaliated with trash talk, and you saw the start of it, you would not say "Get the hell out of here, retaliating individual". Instead, you would go "Man, that rude guy deserved that trash talk. I don't believe that was the best way to handle the situation though." You do not get punished. You are just given advice. In league, you are flagged.

  7. Adding to number 6, you are stuck with this person for 20+ minutes. Long periods of anger are toxic to your health. However, you are being told to STAY with this toxic individual. Forget the fact that research has shown the negative effects on long term anger on your health, somehow releasing it in the only way they can at that time is considered 'bad'. Should you flame them to let your anger go? Can't do that. Gotta pent it up even if it's for 2 hours. We all know how healthy that is. Yes, I rather not support something like this. But, considering Riot doesn't want us to have breaks during games that can last hours, what else can one do? Not explode? A boiling pot will go over some time. Expecting it not to is dumb. Unlike what people think, emotions DO affect our physical health. Write it down? What do you want the victim to do? AFK during the game? You will get flagged for that. You can let it not bother you? Yeah, that is easier in real life when you can physically walk out or walk away. In this case, you get punished. Add a system in which they can be kicked. Okay, so where is the fill player? What in the world makes this a good idea? Even a feeder can be used as a distraction to backdoor and push other lanes. Also, a feeder only gives 50 gold at some point, in which the enemy is wasting their time. Especially if that feeder has huge amounts of HP. Mute them? What will that do? Control them not taking red buff from you? Good luck with that. Multitask? Well we have one person not trying. Putting 50% of your effort in an already losing game is better?
