I am a ranked troll
I like winning as much as anyone else, but I'm not driven by it. I don't particularly care if I win or not. I play League because it's fun to fuck around with champion and item interactions. I play league because I want to find out if you can support with Veigar. Or if building full tank on him works. Or if I can jungle with attack speed Janna. I don't get mad when I see other people try similar stuff, even if they go 0/20, because the fucking around is the fun bit to me. I give very few fucks about the outcome of individual games. A victory is just validation that whatever wacky idea brewing in my brain can work. Even if it's situational or it was a fluke or I got carried.
I can see some of you turning red with bulging veins preparing to type "WHY THE FUCK DON'T YOU STAY IN NORMS?"
Interesting question, my rage filled friend. Let's consider what norms are.
The normals queue works exactly the same way as the ranked queue, but with less potential for reward. I start the process the same way, I get the same pick/ban phase, I get to play the same game paired against people who should be around my skill level. Literally the only differences between the queues are that ELO is hidden entirely in norms, and that I can't get season rewards by playing them.
There is no reason for me (or anyone else for that matter) to ever queue in norms, except to stay out of games of people who don't want to play with someone like me.
This presents a problem because people who aren't like me don't want to play with people who are. When I get put on a troll team, there is no conflict at all. Everyone spams memes and feeds and builds goofy things and has fun. When I play with people who take this game seriously, they get unimaginably salty.
i think this is the fundamental split in the league community. The "Play-to-win" mindset, vs the "Play-for-fun" mindset.
