Sarcasm is so common that complimenting someone in chat sounds passive-aggressive...

"ty for mia" "nice farm" "nice score"

I actually thanked someone for pinging their opponent as missing, even though I died because of them. It didn't work out too well for me.

Studies show that adding an ! At the end of a text or message makes people much more likely to see you as being sincere.

"TY for mia!" "Nice farm!" "Nice Score!"

me: "my bad, i thought jungle was coming"

jungle: "typical. fuck you blaming jung"

me: "i actually thought i saw jungle on the minimap. my mistake"

Just say "GJ" and continue. Simple, punchy and it can't be misconstrued as you being an ass.

mid- gets ganked by jungle very early, gets 1st blood, but dies. me: gj :) mid: LISTERN HERE U LIL SHIT ..o snap..wat have I done?!

Even when you give someone positive advice, like if they are losing lane badly and suggest they might want to build more defensive. instead of saying OMG YOU FEEDER, YOU SUCK... you still get the same couple of responses of afk, i'm done, i'm just gonna feed cuz you are telling me what to do... blah blah....

sucks, specially because I always try to be positive and be like, " hey bud, just try to play safe. " because so many people in the community rage at each other some people don't seem to realize someone is actually giving a positive reaction or suggestion. Sucks... This game has become so competitive that some people forget that this is a video game, it's meant to be fun.

We need emoticons

xReadyPlayerOnex1/3/2016, 7:35:45 PM1 votes

We need a voice option. Remove chat, remove the confused context. I'm one of those guys that'll call you an asshole jokingly or use the word correctly and mean it as irritating. For most people this is read as "DIE IN HELL" rather than "jokes on you, laugh with us". If we had a voice feature you'd hear that in my intonation. People just lash out at "chat" and "champions" and can't hear the context and person behind that so we all assume the worst. If we had a voice option it would benefit the game and community in soooo many ways.

Well, why would you tell someone nice farm if they didn't have nice farm? I can't even see how someone could take that wrong.

yup

There's a few ways to make it sound like you're not being sarcastic. Sometimes at the beginning of a game I'll say in /all chat "If I say something that sounds sarcastic, don't worry - it's not sarcastic at all. I'm just a nice person :)"

DeynaTaggerung1/3/2016, 9:28:41 PM1 votes

It helps if you say nice things to people at the beginning of the game before anything happens. If people's first impression is of you being sincere then later on they're more likely to accept your compliments at face value.

TwinkiePro1/4/2016, 10:06:33 AM1 votes

Simple, shorten it or lengthen it. Say "ty" or "nice" or "gj". If you are going to type all that, may as well make it a full sentence.

I never know if someone telling me I did a good job is being serious or sarcastic :P

Vistha Kai1/3/2016, 3:42:02 PM1 votes

Or maybe people are working up too much over every little thing written in the chat?

Honestly, when people get mad over something like OP said, they don't deserve being taken seriously.

Our jungler ganks bot twice after seeing us lose an early fight

Me: Thanks for all the help bot Jungler: You're kidding me right?

Clockwork Madoka1/3/2016, 5:31:55 PM1 votes

I actually aim to not be passive aggressive, or even sarcastic much at all (unless it's out of good fun, not to demean someone)....I feel weird complimenting someone on a gank because it almost always comes out as this.

GamblerOfLives1/3/2016, 5:34:07 PM1 votes

I love it when i counterjungle, and the enemy junglers saw this.I am like "sry man, thought it was my jungle" Or, when i steal a camp from my team or the enemy "TY" Or when someone makes a mistake "?" this is like so mean:))))
