Increase Punishment

They should increase the punishment for people who leave the game. Leaving during ban phase is one thing, leaving mid game is another. For example, i just played a ranked game and had both of my bot lane quit. They should get a much more sever punishment for rage quitting, or quitting mid game in general. People keep doing it. So i just lost elo and am about to be demoted because of people leaving the game. If someone leaves from your team during ranked, i think that team should also not lose elo, because no one likes having to be down a man or two. Thank you for your time, and i hope you consider it.

How do you accurately punish leavers without hurting people with honest connectivity issues or emergencies?

The current system will punish leavers, but also has built-in leniency for unavoidable gaming disruptions. Making the system harsher risks hurting innocents, and I frankly don't see how it would help anything.

People claim that "you can tell when people quit versus disconnect" but what if people quit because of an emergency, or to try and fix lag only to find they couldn't reconnect, etc.

You cannot accurately determine a person's real situation for why they did not play a game fully. Thus, the current system should not be increased. Riot has tuned punishments to allow for an acceptable false positive rate - example: I got leaverbustered for two games in a row that Riot's patch fucked up the config file and didn't let me load into. That was before I started testing it in customs. Was that a false positive? Yes, in the sense that I wasn't a "leaver" but someone experiencing legitimate technical issues. However, the rate of this type of thing happening has been determined by Riot to be acceptably low at the current level of punishments.

TLDR: Stricter controls means more false positives which makes more players angry.

No, the punishment system shouldn't be stricter, the previous responses suffice to point out why. My router and client act funny at times, but I would never rage quit. I even time my toilet breaks so I can stay in the game.
