We know that most negativity in game comes from a misstep

Why is it then, no one gets perma-banned for making a "misstep"? Get rid of the "misstep" and most of the negativity is gone.

Under this current system, we are allowed to cause negativity. While perma-banned for being negative. You are allowed to give someone cancer. If you have cancer, you will be executed.

we owe these players frank feedback about unsportsmanlike conduct, **and a chance at **gaining some self-awareness and growing as players and part of the community

If you cure your cancer "quickly", we won't execute you. You are still allowed to give other people cancer. If you get cancer again, you will be executed immeadiately.

we shoot penalized players a reform card explaining why other players think they should be penalized, but not an idea of how to change and grow. That gap is important for us to fill.

Stop allowing people to give me cancer, and I might grow. Keep allowing people to give me cancer, and I won't grow.

There is another option. Let me live with my cancer. Don't execute me. I might grow.

This isn't cancer.

This is people who behave poorly, in chat or through game behavior. Poor chat behavior is easier to spot and hold the person responsible because they're 100% in control of what they type.

Poor gameplay behavior (such as intentionally stealing CS, feeding, etc) is harder to automatically detect and judge because Riot will always try to avoid punishing someone for just playing poorly. The issue is trying to judge intention in such cases.

I don't understand how people are so hate filled over a game. If you feel like this when playing a game you should be enjoying, you should probably seek help.

And FYI, if you get rid of everyone who makes a misstep, there would be a player base around here of 0. Not even you'd be here.

You just said control was irrelevant, but then go on to say "accidental". The chat conduct rules are vague but simple. Treat others with civility, even if they don't to you.

No one should be additionally punished for being bad at a video game. Losing is already the punishment for that. If you want to be certain of the skill level of your teammates, you should have formed a pre-made group.

I am not sure how someone's opinion is "wrong". You may not agree with it, but it is still their opinion which cannot be proven or disproven.

Now, I read your entire post, and like someone before I cam curious about how you would rid this misstep. From what I an understanding you attribute the toxicity from someone because of a bad play, which does happen; people gripe and complain or even flame, but how would you get rid of the misplay? Everyone plays perfectly and it becomes a war of attrition?

I'm going to go ahead and agree with Aero in the regards you control your chat. You can even control the ability to sell the person who is causing the "cancer" chat to you by muting.

And finally, releasing my inner nerd. What does cancer matter when Deadpool exists? xD

Thank you for clearing it up for me with understanding. With the initial post I felt I was misinterpreting what you were implying. Everything begins from the first reaction of flaming a bad play. Although I am confident you mean the reaction to the flaming by flaming back. I can agree with that to an extent. If you reply to the toxic player, I honestly expect slight toxicity in most cases. But if you end up being more toxic, then that becomes a problem.

The only point I am seeing is that you can't grow while people are flaming you and being toxic. Even if they don't stop people being cancerous, then don't punish me for providing the cancer back. If I still am missing something then apologies.

Easy doesn't mean right. Granted the current system is heavily flawed in some cases, it at least tries to do the right thing. The easiest thing would be mute and then report. Even if they report you, unless you flamed back you are clean.

No, I am not asking that everyone plays perfectly. Just like you expect me to forgive you when you mess up, I am asking for you to forgive me when I get frustrated.

Yes, bad plays will always happen. I am arguing that they would happen less if Riot focused on them. A side effect from improving overall player skill, will be overall less negativity.

If you are being ignored you aren't being punished. The cause of flaming, has an effect of muting and reporting.

The cause of flaming, is bad play. The effect of flaming, is muting and reporting.

The cause of bad play, can be anything. The effect of bad play, is flaming.

The easiest thing would be mute and then report.

It is easier to just mute and not report.
