Nah, I'm just kidding. I was using some pretty shitty hardware for my internet, and honestly, today I figured I wanted to deal with the disconnects as much as my teams liked dealing with my disconnects. Went out, bought new hardware, did what needed to be done.

LeaverBuster is in place to ensure that if you're consistently having troubles playing complete matches of League of Legends, then you take active steps to resolve the issue so that it doesn't happen again. I hadn't gotten LeaverBuster in a while, but even having connection issues occasionally is a lot to deal with - I felt bad leaving my teams hanging, trust me.

And as a last note, some (actually, almost all) connection issues aren't related to Riot's servers. Sure, you may be able to access YouTube and the Boards while unable to connect to the game servers, but that can be due to a large variety of issues, from ISP routing problems to hardware issues like the ones I had. Just wanted to add this last tidbit to add a bit of objectivity in trying to identify connection issues; it's generally not on Riot's end :p

True. Hopefully that's something they might add sometime in the new client, but in the meantime, you can open up Command Prompt and tracert the server IP's for a good estimate of what your ping will look like.

NA: 104.160.131.1 EUW: 185.40.65.1 EUNE: 31.186.224.42 **OCE: **103.240.227.5

In command prompt, you can enter the command:

tracert server ip here

My ping will be around 170-180 on Oceania, which is about right.

Starting a custom match would be a bit faster and more convenient.

Actually, not at all. In fact, you can even write a batch command that would save time! Just click and read!

If you want a .bat file available, open notepad and write out

tracert SERVER IP pause

then save it as ping.bat or some other name.bat When you click the file, it will instantly run the tracert command, and the pause command will ensure the window stays open. If two very, very short lines take longer to type out than loading up a full custom game, then props on your click/load times.

i know lots of people prefer to do a tracert instead of a ping because it shows you WHERE the lag is happening, but if you just want to know what your ping in game will be, this is the batch file i use. again, more of a personal preference.

@echo off cls Set IPaddress=104.160.131.1 PING %IPaddress% -t call :PingTest

this also makes the ping go on forever so you can check if your ping has been spiking at all and if there has been any packet loss. when i check my ping, i prefer to leave it running for a few minutes before i hop into a game, just so i know it will stay stable.

Some servers won't return a response time due to the way the firewalls are configured. Fortunately for NA players that the ping method works, but for servers like Oceania, tracert's the only way to go. The ping command definitely is faster if it works though!

i did that when i had ping problems a few month ago. played a custom game for 20min, everything totally fine. start an aram not even 10 sec in ping over 800.

As someone with not a lot of experience with computers and technology, could you go a little in-depth on that? (aside from that I like the point you presented :D)

Great question ;)

For one specific example, there was an instance where there was a cut fiber trunk in Texas that caused players to be unable to login to the League of Legends servers or experience higher than normal lag. **This was about five months ago. **

Lag may occur as the result of heavy loads during peak hours and packet buffering (here's a video by Riot Games Support) as well (these would be the more common of the ISP-related issues). You can check whether your packets are being buffered with Netalyzr, and if your ISP is buffering your packets, you can kindly ask them to change that.

I had few leaver buster punishments because my laptop used to overheat while playing, which resulted in me disconnecting from game for 3-5 minutes. Fortunately I got it fixed, the problem is gone and I've never again got leaver buster since. I'm not really mad for getting these punishments, they made me more desperate to get rid of the problem.

Literally the longest idle time I had, was coming back to PC when the game was at 1:50.

You'd think that doesn't trigger LeaverBuster, but oh well, seems like you can even piss durning loading.

Are you serious right now? I as a season 1 EU player can assure you Riot has had plenty of server problems. (note how I said EU and not EUW, that's right, pre server split! For those of you uninformed, in ancient times Riot had so many server problems because of their huge player base, that they had to split EU into EUW & EUNE. Never Riots fault... yeah sure.)

Those server issues were a result of early/bad infrastructure and that Riot partnered with another company. When there were service issues with EU, Riot would need to contact the other company and have them resolve it. Since then, Riot is no longer partnered with that company, and has been upgrading infrastructure since then.
