Do you think "GGEZ" should be a bannable offense?

Kind of said it right there. Now I know what most will say... "Don't be a baby" or "Stop crying" but GGEZ is just as toxic as any other BM out there so I think that maybe it should be taken just as serious for bans. Just my thought.

I believe that it is unnecessarily disrespectful and counts as a form of negative behaviour.

It is already a punishable offense.

Saying ez at the end of a game is essentially saying you were elected for douchebag of the year.

higura6/24/2016, 1:25:44 AM59 votes

it already is bannable offense, it goes under point 6 of the SC:

Show Humility in Victory, and Grace in Defeat While it's alright to celebrate, make sure that you keep any gloating (or any other mode of self-indulgence) out of all chat. Instead, thank your opponents for the game. After all, despite their best efforts, they just made you a very happy person.

i would also like to quote a Community Coordinator on EUW named RoniBoo who posted this back in 2012 on the topic:

Hello StrokeZ Paragraph VI of the Summoner s Code says : Show Humility in Victory, and Grace in Defeat http://na.leagueoflegends.com/articles/The_Summoners_Code Saying "gg easy" is very discouraging for the enemy team. It is an example of bad sportsmanship and a clear violation of the 4th paragraph of the Summoners Code. Please bear in mind that you can enjoy yourself, but not at anyone else’s expense.

Unsportsmanlike? Sure. On its own and not used often? Nah, not worth banning over.

But the types of players that say "ggez" usually has more damning behavior to punish for.

NicolasTr6/24/2016, 1:01:49 AM37 votes

It's unsportmanlike behavior and obviously toxic attitude toward people on the League, so i beleive yes it's worth the report/ban. I personally report every player caught writing '' gg ez'' no matter the team, enemy or ally, and during game or after game.[zombie-brand-clap]

DarkRitual6/24/2016, 2:22:56 AM16 votes

It's basically saying "you guys suck lol." Of course it should be handled that way when it's said with that intention. When someone says "ggez" and it's ironic (they went 0/8/1 and lose), it should be seen as a non-issue since the intent is purely comical.

So basically, it all comes down to intent. With no other context, and the player having said nothing at all in all chat otherwise, I would assume it's done for the first reason I mentioned, so yes. It's not funny, and it's only intended to tilt people or get them riled up. Don't be a baby, sure. But don't be an asshole either.

SmokedAlmonds6/24/2016, 12:42:09 AM14 votes

It is already confirmed to be negative by the punishment systems. A lot of people, in my opinion, way overexaggerated its severity. Calling it bannable is technically true I guess, but imo misleading. From what I have seen it is a drop in the bucket, like most individual things. If the only thing you ever did wrong was saying GGEZ at the end of a game I doubt you would ever be punished.

It just happens to be a common thing people who are otherwise negative say. It typically also happens at the end of the game so it is fresh in peoples minds which probably makes it more likely to be reported.

LadyRenly6/24/2016, 1:12:58 AM13 votes

people who say it, or "?" are insufferable douchebags, they deserve whatever they get

MrPharmD6/24/2016, 2:07:11 AM12 votes

You are being a bit too sensitive in my opinion.

Too old for this6/24/2016, 5:37:50 PM10 votes

People get offended way too easily now days. Just move on to your next game.

Pr0Meister6/24/2016, 4:12:51 PM9 votes

Eh, might as well chip in.

As far as offenses go, ggez is pretty weaksauce. There are plenty of waaay more hurtful insults that need to be weeded out first: racial slurs, death threats, rape threats etc etc

BUT! (And that's a big but, think Irelia)

GGEZ is as unsportsmanlike as it can go. That's the equivalent of spitting at your opponents hand at the end of the match. This isn't trashtalk. Trashtalk is during or pre game. This isn't the funny kind of Trick2G disrespect to make your opponent tilt this is the kind of disrespect that makes the coach slap you behind the head and make you go back and apologise.

So IMO it should lead to chat restrictions and repeated offenses to banning. Cause, ggez hotshots, try to remember that at the end of every boxing/tennis/football game the opponents shake hands for a fucking reason, you incosiderate twats.

KING OF MASKS6/25/2016, 2:56:15 AM9 votes

You people are fucking insane. That's all I can say.

Yes, "ggez" is a shitty thing to say during or after a match; it's unsportsmanlike conduct condensed into four letters. But is it "as toxic as other forms of BM"? No. That's a complete, total and utter lie. You have players calling others autistic, calling them %%%gots, instructing them to commit suicide, and yet ggez is on par with all of that? Fuck off with your hyperbolic nonsense.

Should "ggez" be bannable? I thought this was a joke thread when I read that. How fucking sensitive are you that you need to retaliate with a ban (either temporary or permanent) when someone throws four letters at you? It's already against the Summoner's Code, and it can stay that way. But making it banworthy by itself is absolutely laughable.

I'm going to get downvoted into the dust, but this circlejerk has to be interrupted.

Jet Sett6/24/2016, 2:05:36 AM8 votes

I feel the most you should get is a chat restriction, it's toxic yeah, but doesn't seem ban worthy.

Womp1236/24/2016, 6:02:41 PM8 votes

I mean, yeah gg ez is very annoying to deal with, but to ban someone over it? Not so sure. I mean, there is always going to be that person, sometimes you just need thick skin and ignore it. Tilt happens because you let it happen, not because someone else tilts you per say.

Malfini6/24/2016, 9:47:22 PM7 votes

Unsportsmanlike? Definitely! Bannable? No.

macromite6/24/2016, 2:37:42 PM7 votes

No, saying ggez isn't worthy of a ban.

Chroud6/24/2016, 8:10:12 PM6 votes

Ill first state that I am not a trash talker and it doesn't go with my play style. BUT

  1. What great sport does not have a little non toxic verbal trash talking? (Should we sip tea and eat crumpets together?)
  2. At what point when you read GGEZ did you sit up in your PC chair and say OMG he just said that!.(I believe only a young immature person would take offense to this considering so many worse things in this world exist.
  3. If you let GGEZ get under your skin you may need counseling.(A)Computer games hurt your feelings way to easy and should probably go outside and play in the sun.(B) GGEZ didn't really hurt your feelings but the only way you can get back at the person is reporting them to help deal with your loss.
  4. Cursing telling people to die ect. These are all out of line and need to be reported but GGEZ or things along this nature come on grow a pair.

If GGEZ hurts your feelings i'm sorry that you were raised in this new era were we give out trophies for trying and can no longer play dodge ball at recess because its dangerous.

(JUST BRUSH IT OFF)

The best sports players have respectful trash talking skills.(It can be used as strat to tilt you and he beat you)

Richard Sherman Gary Payton so many more.

as long as its not Racist or life threatening and doesn't particularity point out a single person it shouldn't be made into a big deal.

/rant from a non trash talking player who has fun and chuckles at peoples creativeness.

Obungo 6/24/2016, 3:09:05 AM6 votes

Anyone who takes ANYTHING people say on the internet, a damn video game in this case, seriously, then you should not be on the internet..

Honestly, "toxicity" is only a thing because people refuse to press the mute button and because people actually care for some reason. Like damn, its probably some random fat ass going type warrior because he has nothing better to do.

So no, GGEZ should not be a bannable offense, there's no reason that anyone should take GGEZ seriously. If you get triggered by GGEZ then go back to minecraft.

Unpaladin6/24/2016, 2:06:55 AM5 votes

You know, out of the many "Banned Player Shaming Simulator" threads on this forum, I can't say I've seen someone come here to say "GG EZ" got them banned/chat restricted. When a similar deal to this does happen though, there's always some hidden malicious intent that the player was hiding that Riot shows everyone. Those threads are a fun read. I'm SURE there's an example of this somewhere that I haven't seen though, which is pretty funny.

Overwatch has this kind of discussion too. Looks like this is actually a big topic/concern. Abolishing a saying filled with nasty intent that may either be to gloat or jest might do some good. Buut I'm also on the fence since it's a four letter meme text that some players do indeed say after every game. I laugh at it when I see someone joke around or get overzealous with it. What a bizarre situation.
