I genuinely don't care what you play in a normal game, even Wukong support or Tahm Kench adc, but if you're a support, at least pretend you are and get a damn support item. At least cosplay as a support, it's just a measly 350 gold for a relic shield, get one

But in the end, vision is a very powerful tool in this game and if the enemy team has sightstone while yours doesn't, chances of winning are in their favor. Same with support gold item. You don't have to start with one. But in the end, it will reduce the gold income for your team if you don't and that means again: chances of winning favor your enemy.
You can't get reported for bad decision making. But that bad decision making probably will make you lose more games.

Still dislike that dang fiddles with tele flash...... Knew it was going to be a troll as soon as they last second picked Fiddlesticks for support.
Needless to say, we lost the game cause i barely could even get 30 cs in 15 minutes and had to be way too pushed and open with.... I think it was a Lee Sin jungler......

I think you only read the first few words.

I acknowledge that if you don't have it early on, you're going to be behind in gold.

Generating gold is fundamental to success in League. Support is the role that doesn't get to generate gold the way everybody else does, so support items allow them their own unique means of getting it. You DO need a support item in the role; otherwise, you're not able to contribute to your team in a meaningful way.
