One word: Incarnati0n.

Not only he received permanent ban on multiple accounts, he received a game permanent ban - as in, he was forbidden to even log in with a new account. And it wasn't just for chat toxicity, but also DDoS'ing and trolling.

DDoS'ing alone is like 10 times more severe than anything you can say in chat.

Player bans (as opposed to account bans) are so rare that they are handled on a case-by-case basis directly by Riot. I don't think I'm going out on a limb here when I say that's not the permabans Fowl is talking about.

They didn't give him his permabanned accounts back.

Obviously, since what he did on those accounts was much more drastic than anything a player permabanned after 3 chat restrictions could do.

And they still went with "Ya, w/e, mate. You can legally play again.".

While I probably would've never let him back in regardless, they let him back in because he showed he had reformed while playing on alternate accounts.

You don't need to point out that he shouldn't have been on alternate accounts, that's why I disagree with the ruling, but he did apparently reform into a positive player. It wasn't just "Ya, w/e mate". Actually preventing a player from ever playing again is impossible, and the effort in pretending they could keep him off was probably not worth it when he wasn't a problem any longer.

Imagine if they could do that with every player or at least have players link themselves to a smurf and get their accounts back after (a LOT) of positive game play. There could be an admissions process to go through with this, starting with an essay apologizing and their plan to reform and such. Then it would be a mass lottery (or something) and a person who put forth effort into following all the steps could be examined and either get put back into the pool or given the opportunity.

Obviously if this was supposed to occur, things such as cheating, ddosing, and more extreme social behavior would have a lower priority.

They used to have a program where a permabanned player could make a new account and level up to 20, and if they showed they reformed they'd get unbanned. Unfortunately, the success rate was abysmally low so it was shut down. Nearly all those people couldn't make it to 20 without being banned, or got banned on their main right after getting it back.

All of Jensen's accounts received permabans.

In addition, Jensen was not allowed to compete in the LCS for 4 years. That's no pocket change. At the end of the 4 years, they took a look and said "On your new account, you've been a positive player. We'll let you play in the LCS now"

All of iwdominate's accounts were permabanned.

In addition, iwdom was not allowed to compete in LCS for something like 2 years.

Though its not like they don't have people lvling accts for them or their sponsors/teams have so many extra lvl 30 accts lying around. Getting an acct permabanned for them means nothing.

What absolutely kills me is when people post their chat logs, assuming that they'll be vindicated somehow, and the logs are wholly comprised of them calling their own teammates slurs and telling them to go kill themselves or something.

Permabans are permanent for a reason. The system has an astronomically low level of false positives, but if you've been banned for something that you absolutely did not do and got hacked for some reason and have very clear evidence to prove your innocence, Riot takes this into account. The system is not 100% foolproof and hackers take advantage of that. If you're being a salty troll, you're not going to get your account back. If you were hacked and your account was stolen and you were banned for account sharing when you were in South America without internet access for three months but suddenly your account says you've turned into a Rengar main, Riot will definitely look into it. Rioters understand things like this happen. VERY rarely, but I've seen it happen, and the person got their account back! Technical issues are not the same as being a toxic dickmunch though, so don't count on getting your stuff back if you've been calling your teammates feeder noobs for months on end. GL HF!
