Why does riot allow the usage of racist/homophobic words in chat at all?

They could simply ban every word they find offensive, then it wouldn't show up in the chat at all. toxicity would be solved entirely with this change.

How can they allow you to type certain things, and then ban you for it? If you don't want players saying certain things, make them not appear in chat. It's so simple I can't even believe there has to be thought on this matter.

My only theory is that they bait people into saying things with perceived chat freedom only to ban them and make them spend more money on the game.

Banning words =/= less toxicity.

People will always find way to get around a ban filter for one.

Two, people will resort to other methods of toxicity/griefing. Like Intentional feeding, ping spamming, and so on.

Why are you not taking responsibility for your own actions and attempting to pass blame onto someone else?

I'm not concerned with your account status -- This is about the 5th time between three topics I've seen you default to " lol but i'm not punished, and not toxic ", yet your very words go against and are blind to the fact that every player is responsible for what is done on their account, and for what and how they speak to others.

It's the same logic as to why streamers on Twitch get banned and lose their sub button for conducting channel business and streaming games that have been banned on the living documentation that tells them what they can and can't do;

You don't and shouldn't need to be told the rules you should be fully aware of in your line of entertainment and business -- and you're accountable when you don't take full note and care for it -- they even point out contextually in this documentation therein;

Further, the ability to set your channel’s game to the above or any other title is not implicit permission to broadcast that game.

It's a rhetorical point that really shouldn't need to be said, yet has been repeated by multiple sources for Riot's documentation, especially concerning chat usage:

Just because you have a mute function and chat filter doesn't make it justified or acceptable to abuse the privilege of chat and harass or flame others.

Or, closer to point:

Because the in game players can mute the toxic chat but when a person can't be toxic in chat they do toxic gameplay instead and that can't be muted.

People always find ways to get around the chat filters. It's called having some responsibility and common courtesy. Having common sense doesn't hurt either. And your theory is entirely, absolutely, 100% incorrect.

This is like saying, if guns didn't exist people wouldn't die. So why do guns exist? The truth of the matter is 1. They'll just use something else to kill.. and 2. This argument attempts to alleviate human beings from all responsibility and now it's the gun/weapons fault for killing, when in fact it is the person using the weapon who is really at fault.

Let me ask you this.. Why do people have to be ass hats with no self control over their typing in the first place? How is it not the persons fault for being toxic? You do have freedom of speech, but you're responsible for what you say. Do you go up to your manager and say "Hey go F yourself"? No because you'd probably get fired and rightfully so! In these same respects don't just be a douche for no reason or riot will ban you. Think of it like being fired for being a toxic a-hole.

There probably would be some benefit to simply censoring hate speech completely. To me though, the words are insignificant. The words are just the tool that the problem person is using. So sure, censor the hate speech, but have it automatically trigger a report by the system to remove the player faster.

Chat filters are no excuse for swearing. If you are just mashing chat calling people colorful words for gays, even if no one sees it Riot doesn't want you there because eventually you will get so pissed you will purposefully misspell it just to insult them.

Let me correct my old post. Chat filters are no excuse for hate speech. It has 0 tolerance. You can swear all you want, just not at your team. "Damn, I fucked that up" -OK "U little piece of shit uninstall loser" -Reportable

And keep in mind, that hate speech is never OK, no matter what the context is. Chat filters are no excuse to silently yell at your teammates in chat, as the spaces where hate speech was censored could be perceived as such.

Being able to be filtered is no excuse to be an ass regardless. Riot only wants nice players here, not assholes.

It would be better if Riot just blocked such words in the first place. Will people find other ways to be toxic? Of course but it is far more insulting to Riot as a company to allow it in the first place then ban people because of it.

Either present and defend a platform of your argumentation the contributes to the discussion or stop posting, because you're actively dismissing comments that you can't have a debate with, insulting them as you hop from discussion to discussion, and instead devolve to ad hominem attacks to belittle the poster in question at the time and the playerbase at large.

You haven't made a single appeal to logic -- you actively run away from it whilst boasting professions of your innocence and status of not having been punished by the system you are actively aware you are currently breaking by carrying on as you are.

to be fair, riot does not present the player with an accurate depiction of what words are trigger words for toxicity because it would allow abuse of their system, but at the same time, it can and has been argued that riot's own policy is triggering toxicity by not allowing players to properly play the game and instead encouraging negative behavior through lack of information, lack of appropriate investigation of player activity performed in game, lack of lobby behavioral filtering, lack of effective communication with the player base and finally, a lack of consideration for both the beta and the public community except by the two weeks of live gameplay feedback numbers and even after that, excessive complaints in season or even over the course of multiple seasons.

It still does not excuse the company, Riot in this case, to allow it to begin with. I agree with you and have stated it earlier that people will find ways around it but like I just said: That is no excuse for the company to allow it to begin with if they are so against toxic behavior.

If they did not allow it such words would be censored. Now I fully realize that you can just type a space in between each letter to get away with some of the censor programs out there and there are other loop holes but I will end with this. If I were in charge of the company and I wanted to not have foul language to begin with I would censor it as best I could and not allow it to be deactivated. What is currently in the game is a censor button that you can turn on and off in options. In essence they allow it. They are hypocrites of their own rules

If they want to not have swearing in the game than the censor button being able to be activated and deactivated violates their own code of conduct. That is all i will say.
