Computer shut down automatically during game for windows update...how to avoid penalties?
When I tried to restart the client, the client started doing an update scanning files..

You could start by turning off the automatic updates.
Sorry, you'll have to run through the patching process since you can't log in without doing so first, and if you were gone long enough you'll be flagged as a leaver (though, if you are very infrequent about leaving you can receive little or no punishment).
Riot doesn't care, you're just 1 in a million players plus they're not going to fret over you waiting 5 more minutes for a game
Yea as some one here already said, you can turn off automatic updates. but it's not like those updates occur everyday. so if you don't ussually leave matches this shouldn't be a problem.
