PSA: Typing "..." after a teammate dies is Toxic Behavior

So what is this?

...

This is what is known as a ellipsis and is used to signify silence or trailing off. However in League of Legends it has a different meaning.

... translates to: "wow that was really fucking dumb, why the fuck would you do that?"

I'm sick of people typing this and then playing dumb about why they think it isn't toxic.

"But I'm just typing"

Actually all communication League of Legends is "just typing", that's a bullshit cop-out excuse. You know what it means, I know what it means, lets not kid each other. You're deliberately trying to make someone else feel like an idiot and hiding behind 3 dots.

Would you rather have someone spam ping mia 10 times on your dead body? ... is literally the nicest way to call you out on a mistake, not sure why you're so sensitive about it.

just ask them "what?" afterwards or mute them. No need to constrict more phrases so people can't use them.

If you did something extremely dumb then yeah I think that warrants a "..."

If they don't actually flame you, or in your words say

wow that was really fucking dumb, why the fuck would you do that?

then settle your britches and deal with it. It's just 3 dots.

so I will get chat banned if i start typing "..." in chat?

Caffeine Pusher4/21/2016, 3:16:53 AM2 votes

This is exactly why I don't type anymore, even "..." to show displeasure. I just go to their lane and feed 3 kills. That makes me feel way better, and it places my account in no danger!

When riot bans you I am sure they will say "..."

Narvuntien4/21/2016, 2:36:42 AM2 votes

Yep that is what it means but in a way that isn't toxic you put the toxicness in there.

"..." = "That was dumb, why did you do that?"

neither the ... or that sentence is toxic.

But it was dumb and you needed to know it was dumb so you don't do it again.

So..what you're saying Is you think SILENCE is toxic? Holy fuck...

So, I'll agree it's passive-aggressive. I'm a stickler for people being polite and creating a good atmosphere, but that's where I draw the line. If they're not specifically flaming you, not continuing to torment you, just typing the "..." and leaving it at that; it's someone expressing frustration but without creating a hostile environment.

This is one situation where, if it was you dying, evaluate if it was a good death or not. If it was, state "It was a good death, I had to initiate, we came out ahead" or if it was a mistake give a "I thought it seemed like a good opening, we'll make it up".

I'm pretty sure it's actually not though, I mean, did Riot say so? If you're 2v1ing bot lane, and somehow the enemy team gets a double kill, then yeah, I'm going to say, "...". Because that was stupid and shouldn't have happened. But as far is it being 'toxic behavior', maybe in your eyes, but it isn't bannable. To my knowledge.
