Chat Restriction Bias

The chat restriction system favors those who don't know how to use the mute feature. While I agree trolling and toxic players negatively impact the game; what is the point of having a mute feature if you can get chat restricted? I currently am in a chat restriction and you can't even defend yourself if your team decides that you're a troll. For instance my last game I was playing as Cait. In champ select another player called he wanted support. He got the role he wanted but he chooses Rengar. I said please don't and was ignored. I didn't complain any further until the Rengar didn't even support. No sightstone, no wards in lane period. Were it not for my traps we would have had no vision period. Yet I can't speak in all chat and my team blames me for the poor performance. How can an adc do well when they don't have a decent support? Anyways back to the point... With a chat restriction in place(I might add this is the first ever I have recieved and I have been playing since season 1 and never have changed my attitude and behavior) a player can not defend themselves. Riot needs to address this issue because a player that enters chat restriction automatically increases their chances of being placed in one again by default. People need to learn to use the mute feature and grow up. If you don't like the way someone is talking then mute them. It's that easy. I mute people all the time. I never once have reported someone for their words only their actions. Reporting someone cause of the way they type is breaking the constitutional right of freedom of speech. Now Riot has not only taken away our basic human right they give us a penalty for doing so. I have been a loyal player since season 1 and this is how i get treated in return? Fix this Riot. I know I can't be the only one that feels this way.

Sadly everyone is going to say don't defend yourself..... Sadly that's the way it has to be on league. You are expected to shut up and not say a single word to anyone what so ever on their performance, and not to be even a slither amount of toxic.

Cause toxic trolls will report you for rightfully getting onto them and putting them in place. So will bad players who suck at the game, they'll report you even tho you are correct probably when calling them out for a piss poor performance.

On my other account, now an account I don't play anymore.. I got hit by back to back chat restrictions LITERALLY.... 4 back to back chat restrictions from 15 games, to 25 games, to 30 games... lol... Got a 14 day ban, then got hit with a chat restriction when I came back.... It was so messed up cause as soon as I got off a restriction, not even an hour later, I'd be hit by another.

So... what i did was make this account. So far, I have not had any chat restrictions tho I been reported a few times, I have been less toxic and have not said anything to anyone which was the intent for this account.

I'm not a toxic person in general, but I'm someone WHO BECOMES TOXIC when i see stupidity. I just hate stupid people, that's all. I can't say anything to them cause I'd be reported. Yeah there is a mute button, but not many use it.

What's worse is when it's a premade and just you, and they all agree to report you.. You can't say anything to them.

Also... I feel when I'm reporting someone, the other player never gets punished.

Anyhow, my advice is to make a new account. Once you get hit with a chat restriction, all it takes is 1 single report to get hit with another if you said anything the slightest bit of what would be deemed as toxic towards the team or someone. It pretty much tilts you honestly and makes you more toxic.

You just gotta deal with stupid people and not say anything, it's dumb, but that's the way it is.

Ticondrius, the point you make is mooore than valid. The fact that riot caters to the spineless shows that they themselves have jelly for spines. For REAL men who do things, they dont just take shit from people and go "Tattle-Tell". If you're playing a game and you tell someone to stop feeding and their response is along the lines of F-OFF, then you're perfectly in line to let them know that their bronze ass tactics is costing the team. How ever you chose to word that is now in your court. No matter what Riot or these pansy-no-woman-having virgins will tell you, the fact of the matter is... the Inter-webs is much like Real life. If someone throws the 1st punch or does something stupid you are MORE than in your RIGHT to defend yourself and put them in check.

Call of Duty and shooter communities did teach us one thing about speech... If you are too dumb to use the mute feature then you're too dumb to be playing video games. Simple. And if your feelings get hurt too poorly before you can get to the mute button then you're too EMO for the inter-webs. Shut your PC down and dont play any more multiplayer games.

Honestly, ANY company that promotes being a soft pansy when people step on you clearly needs a new CEO who's over 40, sometimes drinks beer and is man enough to physically be capable of growing facial hair.

True story. Grow the fuk up Riot, and League community.

You don't need to defend yourself. The system throws out false reports and people that make them lose weight in their reports; you aren't punished just for getting a report.

When you get toxic to a troll, you're giving them exactly what they want. The mute function exists to prevent further problems, but what's already been said to make you use it has already done harm, which means muting is not an excuse to be toxic.

You can't throw around "freedom of speech" because you sign an agreement regularly (Terms of Use/EULA) that says otherwise. It is a legally binding contract, and if you don't want to follow its rules then don't sign it (aka don't play).

As much as you think someone deserves for you to abuse them because you were victimized first, they hold the same rights you have. You have no idea why they are being toxic either; they could be having a tough time in real life, or are frustrated at the game. "He started it" is a child's excuse.

Here's the thing with 'defending' yourself: you don't need to.

By not responding, you either further enrage them and they effectively hang themselves, or they'll get bored, stop, and the game becomes more enjoyable for everyone.

In either case, if they still try to report, there will be nothing to punish and be flagged as false reports.

So basicly all I have learned is that I need to insta-mute every player every game and then I wont get a chat restriction? Cause that's all this has taught me. Let's see if I get a ban/report for not communicating now. No matter what happens the players lose in these kinda situations.

How do you figure that you automatically get placed with others with chat rest. ? The Mute button is not the 'I can say anything I want button' it is there to minimize damage.

Furthermore, you are the one being punished so how do you rationalize 'using the mute button and growing up' as you apparently did not Use this function to begin with. Your saying that you can't defend yourself while saying use the Mute so you don't have to hear what others are saying..What am I missing here ?

Really what we can learn from this is not to play to the jerks level...see other say they have done so and so can you..not true

What you got to ask yourself is Why do I feel the need to engage Asshates in their own game..it gets most in trouble which makes the person who started it feel better because they are not the only one's to act out.

Listen man, just cause you can don't mean you should !! Be the better person.

On another note, do all you can to improve yourself in this game and you'll find when you focus on you and not on others You get the reward not a punishment.....Hey OP GOOD LUCK ! And I mean that :P

The Mute button isn't there for you to be an Ass and if you feel like being the better person then you need to take a Real long look at yourself !

Another thing Riot needs to consider with chat restrictions? How come you don't give us the chat from our team when you chat restrict us? It's pretty bias only showing what the restricted person has said and not showing the other side of the story. Another reason that a person who gets chat restricted instantly is at fault every time. If Riot truly believed in their Tribunal system than a player should be able to defend themselves by showing the full chat log to the public instead of just their own words. How can anyone prove they weren't provoked or harassed first when you dilute the chat log just to justify your restriction? Seems pretty one sided all around. Anyone can report for anything and as long as they have one person backing them up then the alleged offender is fucked over every time.
