Toxicity and the community: where did everything go so wrong?

TL;DR: Clean-record player wonders why community creates self-fulfilling prophecy of a game with a trashy community.

Yo, proud owner of one warning by leaverbuster this one time when I was having really bad connection issues. (I did resolve them, ty for asking) I've never been moderated to my knowledge and though my behavior could certainly use it, I'm apparently not a bad enough dude to get warned. Which is impressive, sometimes I make up new swear words to call people because, you know, eloquence of language. I also get very direct with insults and comments, though I'm retaliating 75% of the time. So, I guess, my record is "clean." I'm gonna tell you it probably shouldn't be, but it's clean enough to not get moderated.

Look, when did League become so... trivial?

Toxicity isn't even what it used to be; some asshole just spams the N-bomb over and over in chat and gets moderated because, duh, what the hell did you think would happen? The trolling very rarely involves anything but feeding, which is literally right clicking, and the game just ends quickly. People usually just keep buying frivolous items if they do buy at all. Meanwhile, you so much as advise that someone should look into a certain stat path and their panties immediately replicate the famous MC Escher stair piece and off they go, on what a tryhard you are or how you should stop playing League or learn the Meta(TM). Then they insult you, no matter where your score, lane or performance is, and they just sort of tilt all game. When someone loses, it's trivialized; you know, "wasn't trying" or "shit teammates" or "OP champs(TM)" or some such thing. But when they win, it's 'ggez' and 'learn to play' and 'git gud.' You know, the whole thing is just... well, trivial?

Nothing is given any due attention. Nothing at all, really, even builds; people still yap about how OP Swain's rework is, all the while they deadpan when you tell them they could build Grievous Wounds. The tanks argue that they're getting busted to pieces in seven god damn seconds while they sit there and try to one-versus-one a carry while never considering what the hell a tank is even supposed to do... you know, for the rest of the team. They autolock, instapicking Pantheon into support. All the while, Riot pastes some smug-ass teenager and says, "Who do YOU autolock?" I mean, forgive me if I'm a bit passe on the updates but-- wasn't autolocking a huge grievance? I certainly remember complaints of people who just picked whoever they want, ignoring anything else. But last time I took part in any ranked was S4.

So, you know, nobody likes the community the way it is now. Everyone treats every game like throwaway trash and it's become a constant fight of finding what's to blame. They said they'd bring back soloQ and suddenly a bunch of champions are over or under powered, even though the queue complaint was addressed. It's just an endless, exponential torrent of complaints, and anytime they try to address one, it pretty much goes unnoticed in the next wave of complaints. Meanwhile, they represent the part of their community that lies when they say 'I am 13 or older' through their media interactions... I'm genuinely asking a question, has Jessica Nigri actually played League of Legends outside of tutorial? Is she actually some dynamo? I hope so. God take me, I hope so.

Listen... I don't expect anyone to really get what I'm after because I ramble a lot. But if the whole community wants to treat the game like it's absolute shit, and act like nothing matters, then that's what they're going to get. All of them. And then the only caliber of toxicity they can ban is that one, and then basically everything is toxicity because there's nothing else that, you know, really fits the bill... it basically makes most of the threads here fall people, the ones who get banned because there's nobody else to get banned. It's like the cops booking extra tickets to fill quota.

Does any of this make sense? Can anyone see why lowering the bar turned the community into the one thing it hates-- an unending force of empty, meaningless games?

God, this is gonna be the one that gets me moderated. Not one F-bomb, a few S-words and this'll be it.

I'm gonna be honest here - not especially.

It sounds as though you're arguing that the imposition of standards forces the community to become worse, but I can't really be sure.

Oh i have a good idea. It comes from the lack of a punishment system for over 2 years. The time between the shutdown of the tribunal and the "introduction" of the instant feedback system was too long and instead of doing something, rito just let everyone do whatever they wanted with zero punishments
