Culture of the Game

Quoting someone probably quite smart said in another thread but I think deserves its own discussion, I find it quite profound: Why is the culture of this game right now about people trying to find ways to ban someone for losing? Toxic behavior is rarely reported on a winning team, yet loads of unnecessary reports get downright contrived out of thin air from losing teams. Reporting is overbearing in this game, it doesn't demolish toxic behavior, it feeds it. Its really an endless cycle of high tension and frustration that boils over time and time again because of the domineering presence it has. Please show me the math on the .006%, because I'd love to bet any amount that is basically an alternative fact situation.

The problem isn't reporting. The perception of excessive reporting is a symptom, not a cause. If reporting didn't exist, people would still blame others for losses, for real or imagined failures, and a general inability to win in that specific game.

Riot isn't delusional. They know that they can't get rid of all negativity. But they can tamper it down to a tolerable level. Reports are the tool to do that. Can they do better? Yes. Personally, I think they should force a video making it abundantly clear how the system works and how to react to toxicity (i.e. mute, report, move on). But that isn't the problem of reports, or their existence. It's Riot's responsibility to use their tools better.

Heat of the moment and someone has to blame someone.

it's because the culture of this game is to shrug any personal responsibility since its random people with no personal repercussions unless you have enough stake in your account, which is rare. most people would rather feel better getting an anonymous ban after venting than not vent when the only pressure not to is remaking your non high elo/ high money spent account

What exactly is the question? Why does reporting exist?
