Making a Difference on the Rift

I played a game with this guy about 15 mins ago and he didn't do so well, luckily another player and I carried the game. We didn't flame him or anything like that, just kept it chill and played the game. A little bit of consideration can go a long way, but I didn't realize just how far. Here are screenshots of our convo:

He even tried to gift me a skin but there are stipulations to that.

I'm not innocent; I've flamed people and been reported recently, actually. But I'm going to make a conscious effort to stop that behavior. Not for the sake of the banner or the bonus loot or any of that..it's because at the end of the day we all have come to the same place to do the same thing...play League!

Be kind. Considerate. Understanding. Encouraging. Nothing wrong with a little banter..a little trash talk..but let us not forget - we're all human.

See you on the Rift!

Thank you so much for sharing man!

I, like yourself, am also not so innocent. I've fed into that Toxic BS before, more in response to it than starting it, but that's not an excuse. These last couple months I've had to make very conscious efforts to reverse that behavior. I'm normally a pretty chill player, it's a game after all.

I've also had a similar incident as above. Determined to stay chill, we had a mid one match who went double negative as Lux against a Talon. Said Talon then began roaming and using his lead to make bot's life miserable.

But we stood our ground, gave some, took some, and as our top or jg flamed the hell out of mid, I said, nah man, it HAPPENS Lux.

Chill out, keep it cool, when we finish bot we'll come to mid and help you strike back hard.

We held it together despite this Talon murdering a lot of us, took our bot lane, and then went directly to mid and gave the Talon more than he realized he wanted, and took the game all the way to his nexus with a vengeance.

After the match, the Lux messaged me and was thankful to heaven and earth that I didnt spend the match flaming her to death for handing mid and part of the game to Talon. I explained, been there done that, it happens. It's nothing to be ashamed of, and no one should be insulted for it, or have to mute everyone in an attempt to escape those insults, to play a damn game.

The point is, most all of us have been there done that. Some of us, within the last 24 hours. I daresay. if all of us check our match history right now, we have each a few embarrassing reels where, despite our best effort, we got f*cked up by an opponent. It happens. Bad team comp, lack of skill against a certain champion, being outplayed, etc etc.

It happens.

Keep it chill. Don't flame, don't insult, and don't put yourself on a pedestal "above" other players, because you think you're better than them. This is not Ancient Sparta, your prowess in League of Legends does not afford you some right to talk to other players however you want.

Keep it chill, kick ass, and....in the event you get your ass kicked...do so gracefully. It's a game. Enjoy it as such, win or lose.

Thanks for sharing again man!

See you in the Rift

You never know what's going on in a person's life behind those other screens. Someone's parent or sibling could be dying, or something even less extreme like someone failed a class. Either can just really bring someone down and a game isn't the place to further those negative feelings, it's supposed to be an escape.

That's what I try to remember if I ever feel like flaming or even if someone else is being a dick and I want to start telling them to fuck off. A few games ago that was the case and I told the dude something along the lines of idk what's going on in your life right now to make you feel so negative and act so negative towards others but this isn't the place for it. I'm sorry its happening to you but please chill out. The guy actually ended up chilling out for the most part.

I commend you friend. Though I haven't been reported, I've both had players like that on my team and have been that player. Sometimes I get terse too, particularly when people start raging at each other, but being a decent human being goes a long way.

With the amount of people complaining about toxic teammates or dumb plays, it's nice to see something like this. As someone who strives to make LoL a much better place, It makes me happy to see I'm not carrying the dream alone.

Nice to see people like this. I usually just keep silent to my teammates and try to be nice. I flame them so very hard...Just offline with my voice instead of in-game with my chat. You can however tell the difference between someone having a bad game and someone intentionally doing bad. Either way try to give helpful advice and the best rule to follow.

Don't be a yashole.

Ya our adc was feeding badly like badly they just had an off day and I was playing sona, managed some kills helped the team we won. Was a good game our team tried to harras the adc but I asked to stop it cause it was my fault for lagging. I added the adc and 2 weeks later I got a dj sona skin with a message from them. They were on a bad road and my kindness helped.

Good.

Verrryyyy good.

Verrryyyyy good.

I've always tried my best to encourage people even when they're not doing so well, but sometimes I lose it completely. But being a support main, helping people really is my job, so I think I do a good job at keeping my head.

People like you lift my hopes. Thank you for being kind!

Elipo9/30/2017, 5:49:07 PM2 votes

so you could change the tittle to "how to get free skins", then you could have more upvotes.... or a ton of downvotes. [sg-zephyr]

I think the key to not flame is a bit of emphaty, your teammmate can be awfully bad but seriously if you flame him, he'll play even worse (maybe intentionally, or maybe because he's gonna get tilted). For the same reasons, if yourself are so tilted that aren't able to write advice in a polite or nice way is better to not write the advise, it could have the same effect as being flammer and it can come of as toxic too.

I try to do that when a teammate's just not doing too well. Call me scummy but if someone's 0/11 they're a LITTLE hard to be friendly to, especially if they're bein %%%%'s about it (I.e. flaming the jg for ganking the pushed in toplane, instead of their PUSHING IN mid w/ a fed zed/talon/yas

I'm on the same boat as you.

I've been chat restricted, I've been temporary bfanned, and I've gotten low priority queues. But after that 14-day ban in July I thought to myself, was it really worth getting angry? No. Sure sometimes I rage, but I don't in chat anymore. I only voice it to myself. I try to be nice and help everyone, even if they're having a AWFUL game.

I have to say... I've been reformed!

The flame will consume you, there will be a game in which you lose because of someone like this and the gates of fire will upon once more. I have had experiences like this were I thought I was "reformed" and later on unleashed the wrath of 120WPM+ on someone. I wish you luck though :)

Champion Skin10/1/2017, 4:40:09 PM1 votes

Well in my games most people don't really say much at all... maybe it just the MMR I am at (well it could also just be because I usually don't pay attention to chat as rarely is anything important said)

If all you care about is winning then you should have a really good reason before type anything more than "X champion R" simply because chat usually isn't very helpful for much (Pings are more useful most of the time when it comes to communication) and it can distract or tilt your allies
