Why The League Community is Toxic

I would like to first state that I no longer play the game. I have played it for a year and a half and after thinking about the subject, I came to the conclusion why the league community is so toxic.

First off, this only applies to ranked players who play ranked to rank up. Essentially, league is a highly addictive, competitive game. You begin to play it for fun and really don't care all that much about it until you hit ranked at lvl 30. When you become ranked, you cease to care about fun so much as ranking up the elo system. Winning to rank up eventually consumes you (generalization: applies to most players but not all) and you begin to only care about wins and losses or the threat of losing will set you off. This naturally makes people very angry toward poor performing players making them toxic. Now, all this is common knowledge, I realize.

I have seen plenty of people tell toxic players or people who complain about being banned for toxicity that it's their fault for taking the game so seriously and they should just play to have fun. The fact is, playing competitive league to "have fun" is really not possible for a majority of players. When you play ranked, you encounter many trolls, afkers, feeders and toxic persons who ruin any sort of "fun" ranked might hold, not to mention, most players worry more about winning than having fun. Essentially, a majority of the ranked community does not enjoy or have fun playing the game, they play to win, but the system where you win usually less than 50% of the time infuriates most people. The only thing keeping most league players playing is their addiction. League is pretty much a big bunch of addicts who hate each other and the game itself, but cannot force themselves off the game. My point: No one likes league. The community is like a bunch of alcoholics who know it's destroying them and that they hate it, but can't force themselves off it.

It is entirely possible to play and not be toxic. The real secret, honestly, is learning when to take a break instead of playing another game.

I play for fun, and I play ranked to win and sometimes have fun. Ranked environment is a stressful one because people want to be the best. You can't be the best if you are silver, so you act serious. Sometimes you let it get to your head too much, and boom, you are yelling at your team.
