Chat Bans

Can you really get perma banned after only a few chat restrictions? I really don't think this is a solution, it won't change anything, and riot is shorsighter for believing it will. Toxic people are toxic, I know plenty of them, and I myself was toxic, a perma ban doesn't matter to you when you're blind with rage, you're just going to spam hate with 0 care. A perma ban just means a new account will be created for the rager who will start all over. Perma bans are most likely not an incentive to stop playing as you can simply make a new account. Here is the real solution: Permanently disable chat for the toxic person. No regular person would be driven to create a whole new account because of this, and it completely solves toxicity. Perma ban solves nothing, a majority of players wouldn't want to just quit and would either buy or create an account. . Why would you implement something blatantly temporary and ineffective when there is a much simpler solution that keeps all parties happy?

I would like to link this thread: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/GlcukLTp-the-experience-of-new-accounts it states the experience of new players. I have played from lvl 1 - 30 on one account, 1 - 25 on another, and many times with friends who were very low level when I was high level. I can safely say that toxic players were not really all that common. You only play normals early on and most players don't really care about normals, I distinctly remember playing a 3v5 match and completely enjoying it (we won) along with all my team mates. No one was toxic when 2 people afked, we just played on.

How have lower levels suddenly become toxic? The answer is 5.18. Perma ban after 3 strikes of chat bans is causing many players to be perma banned (let's be honest, there are probably many of these people). The third strike alone (2 week ban) is incentive enough for players to create a smurf in order to play. Do these people learn from their bans? NO, they don't, or they wouldn't have been perma banned in the first place. After being banned, they create a smurf to start anew, and bring that toxicity to lower levels with them. Clearly this is indicative that banning does NOT work. How could it? Toxic players simply recycle themselves back into the game. The solution: perma chat ban. This is not incentive enough for someone to make a smurf, but works just as well as a perma ban. Riot's heavy handed tactics have gone much too far. It is easier to get away with afk and trolling than it is to get away with toxicity. I could afk 3 times, and on the 4th, would not be perma banned (probably get away with a queue ban at that).

Overall: Perma banning toxic players simple recycles them into lower levels and does not provide a solution. the fact that afkers and trolls (far more game ruinous) can get away with less penalties is a clear indication that the system is seriously off-kilter. Solution: Perma chat ban. Plus, no one will B**** about perma bans on threads every 5 seconds after you implement this.

For the record: I have never been perma banned, feel free to look at my summoner icon. I just feel that riot is acting completely in the wrong.

You can believe that perma-bans don't work all you want, and for some people, you're absolutely correct. There are people, however, that improve their behavior just because Riot holds that threat over their heads. If a permanent chat ban is what you think would improve your behavior personally, you can do what some pros do which is submit a ticket to Riot, and ask for a lengthly chat restriction. I would suggest trying to play this game more positively though. More and more reform threads are coming though talking about how people are having a better experience just by being more positive in game. You never know; you might like it.

Have a nice day. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

If a perma-ban means Riot actually bans based on IP address access, then maybe the player wont get another account. In any case, I've played with some really toxic groups in rift...... and really positive teams in crystal scar (dom). It's like night and day. Frankly, if Riot wants to keep their toxic players I doubt many will stay with it long if new. I'm not sure if any of the rest of us want to deal with it either. Teams that insult are generally the ones that lose. No one wants to be on the losing team- with insults to boot! I suggest Riot focus on Dom games and see if their revenue soars......
