A lot of people don't know that sharing accounts is wrong, that it violates our Terms of use, that it entails many risks, and that it can even result in a permanent ban. We're going to use this space to talk about this issue and offer some examples to illustrate the reasons why this is a harmful practice.

Let's take a look at the most common scenarios:

You give your password to a friend or family member

Nooooo! Don't do it! The only person that should know your password is you. Don't forget that accounts are personal. Each summoner is unique, which means that when his account is shared, part of its personality is lost in the process. Don't give your password to that friend who wants to check out your skins or to that cousin who just joined the League and wants to know what a level 30 account feels like. You can always help them create their own account. That way, you can even start a team and play together.

Free RP offers

Don't take the bait. There are shameless people out there who want to take advantage of innocent players by offering free or discounted RP. They will ask for your password in order to transfer the RP. And you know what happens when you give it to them? They keep your account and you never see the RP. The only way to purchase RP is through the in game store or with the pre-paid cards sold at stores and cybercafes. If you see anyone offering RP on another site, don't trust them, and submit a request reporting the abuse. Piltover will be grateful!

Elo boosting

Out of frustration or sheer laziness, some people ask others to play ranked games for them in order to climb the ladder. It's a bad practice that violates the Terms of use. Furthermore, it can result in a temporary or permanent ban of the account. Don't forget that if someone else uses your account, they might behave inappropriately with it. It's never worth the risk!

Account trading

As we said before, accounts are personal, non-transferable and free. Both selling and buying them is strictly prohibited. Not only is it bad practice, it is also often used to take advantage of players. Someone sells you their account, keeps your money and then recovers said account. You end up with no account and no money. Don't buy or sell accounts. In both cases, you lose.

sometimes i let my girlfriend play on my account when she is over at my place. i will probably get banned. i dont give a fck, i will never spend money with this game because sooner or later you will get perma banned for something stupid so why even bother. downvote me because you have invested alot of time into fooling yourself into thinking that if you 'follow the rules' then you 'own your account'. ive never had these bizarre problems with other game companies and some ive been with for 15+ years

And yet even with post from Arbiters like Nami, or even from Rioters people will still give their account information to others (friend or not) and still claim they didnt know. But good on you Nami another awesome topic!

Hi DTN,

Just a quick question, I sometimes play with my sister (she is 8) in Co-op vs. AI (she thinks that Soraka is pretty and doesn't mind the horn). Is this okay? I essentially I move her around and she steamrolls with her q :)

And what if you let an IRL friend use your account to test a character in a bot game?(helping clear things up)

I have 100+ friends that play league. I can assure you that every single one of them has shared their accounts for various reasons, like trying champions, playing ranked games since they are separate elos etc. And noone has ever been permanent banned.

What if I had played on my account at my friend's house?

How can Riot tell the difference? Is it just by playing style or IP address or ???? Sorry, I get worried about this often.
