This is not a "Toxic players are awful" thread. This is a love the community thread.
Hi all! My name is Lazy cat and I've played this game about the time Spirit Guard Udyr was released(Late season 3). I mained top though a majority of my League of Legends career, although I have moved into mid lane as of recently. In real life I am a high school senior everyday asian guy who likes games.
I just wanted to make this post today because of recently, I have been really feeling the cruel edge of life and league is really a part of me that make's me feel, even if only a little bit, better mentally. This also made me more sensitive to my actions, my instinct, and my awareness to the players around me. I think League of Legends is a great game, and I love it dearly. However it has come to my attention that it's also not an asylum.
There are people in this world who somehow where influenced in such a way that they will go out of there way to harm others though, and that's just a fact of what it is. This negativity seeps into other players and this hatred is redirected onto other players to taint others. I believe there are no league players who were not once a good player, only those who bring hatred into the game.
The thing is there is no one bringing positivity into this game. A few days ago, I was talking to my favorite teacher, 37 year old eccentric asian guy named Kenny and he said to me: "(my name), there is nothing you can do to disappoint me." This quote really made me think about people. My negative view of the world, human interaction, and actions towards me, along with my raging low self esteem made every interaction, not matter the intention to help or hinder, seem like an attack, a provocation, an invitation to close out the world and idle alone in a quiet space in my own lonesome.
I carried this mentality to my league games that night. My team could never let me down, And I would always let them know that I trusted and cared about them. Before you think this is really weird and down vote, I say I may have not loved them, but I still said I loved and appreciated them, and repeated the kind words of Kenny to every one. I congratulated them when they got a kill, I thanked them when they ganked for me. I congratulated the enemy team to, but only when they killed me.
The expierience was completely different. I noticed that I felt better about myself, but also about others. They were not just "that Janna Jungle," they were a person, who for some reason decided to play jungle Janna and take a questionable build path, who was on the other side of the screen, playing a game we all love and enjoy. We must remember that conflict only brings negative emotions, while the low effort compliment, as simple as "NJ Bot!" goes a long way.
We must remember that we are all people, be it one way or another we are different, but we must not attack each other simply because of differences, of actions, or of the way they communicate.
I like to think that by me being unconditionally positive and kind that I made the game, no matter how bad, a better expierience for my fellow team mates. I share this with you, the boards, because change does not come without power, and power is in numbers. Condemning and attacking others only leads to more and more negativity, were as if we praise, congratulate, and appreciate others, we can change the entire expierience.
I thank you for your time, and I wish you the best of luck in all your games.
With best regards,
Lazy Cat
