A request from Ulanopo

Hey everyone,

One of the main reasons this board exists is so people can come ask about their ban. I know some people try to use it to troll or to argue against the very existence of behavioral systems, but we need to focus on the people who are looking to understand, even if they're really clueless.

It's not helpful to say "you deserved your ban" or "I'm glad you're gone". Even if those things are true, they are neither kind nor necessary.

Likewise, reflexively downvoting threads where the ban was justified doesn't do any good. While it might be feedback of a sort, it's more likely to make them feel they're being judged rather than helped. It would be better to reserve your downvote for things that you actually find objectionable.

I love that we have a dedicated community doing the heavy lifting of helping people, day in and day out. I know how hard that can be and I appreciate all of you.

I agree with your message, Ulanopo. I think too often people in this board are just too excited to immediately jump down the throat of the players that come here and are genuinely confused.

Let's all take a step back, put ourselves in each other's shoes, and offer a helping hand to each other!

Help transcend our community, show compassion for those who so desperately need it. Remember, everyone we see in here is a human just like you and me, we all have our shortcomings.

Please, show some empathy when you reply to that next permaban thread.

I understand this Thread and i agree.

But i dont think this will change the Behaviour of the PH Boards Users. Downvoting "Flamers" or People "who deserved it" will always be a problem.

Im still gonna upvote this Thread here so It might reach People, but as i said im not believing it will.

But what if they're asking "Did I deserve this ban"?

The vast majority of threads in this forum are pointless. Check out this one for an example: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/4Brn4VYg-banned-for-14-days

Frankly, I don't know why this is a public forum any more. The discussion value in nearly every thread made is negligible. The functionality of educating individuals who are genuinely confused by their bans could be handled by approved volunteers/mods and not left to the public. Sticked FAQs could answer nearly all questions, too.

The last two threads I participated in that actually got into some deep topics were locked and buried, and I got warned for my posts in at least one of them. I can understand why, because they dealt with the root causes of homophobia, the implications of hate speech, and the Bible's opinions on the matter. That sort of talk rarely stays civil, and I probably wasn't my best self in those discussions either, so I understand why the threads no longer exist. But if we're not gonna actually discuss WHY Riot has a zero-tolerance policy on hate speech, then how in the hell are we supposed to effectively answer somebody who gets banned for such and doesn't understand why?

I miss the Verdict. I guess it might not have been popular enough to continue doing, but showcasing examples of positive vs. negative logs seemed like an actual DISCUSSION topic to me. All we're left with now is admonishing immature players who can't figure out how to follow the rules.

I downvote the threads because those types of "How does this justify this punishment" is 99% of the time toxic people playing victim. Why should everyone else be expected the empathize/sympathize with the toxic punished one?

I totally agree, but the issue needs to be addressed by BOTH sides. Starting a post with "Riot's trash and you are all snowflakes" does not actually allow for discussion. Many ban appeals are wrought with hate speech and a demand, not a request. They continue to exhibit hostility unless someone says they agree that the person should be unbanned. There is little chance to engage in a conversation that seeks to improve the situation of the original poster. You must meet your audience halfway, or risk having your opinion invalidated because people don't care. The very few times I have seen a ban appeal come from a genuinely nice person it has been addressed with compassion and care, and the person left happier knowing that they can come back to the community by improving their behavior.

I am sorry, but that comment right there is what is wrong with this whole system. It is okay (support told me) to intentionally try to ruin someone's game but if you say a word that breaks their soft little heart you are immediately wrong. If someone feels "judged" and victimized because they were downvoted, they do not need to be in a public setting or playing this game. For god's sake, Riot added emote spamming and mastery spamming then says "please don't say yasuo going 1v5 bc 'im a legend' is --- trigger incoming --- stupid" is TOXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXIC. What does toxic even mean? Clearly "toxic" is not being used in relation to "making the community a bad place" because streamers will vocally say things like "wtf this kid is shit "is this kid fucking retarded" "holy cow these kids suck" but if you use the inbuilt chat function to say something like "no this isn't my firs time mid, is it your first time jungling?" or "9x blitz int bc he didnt get to play eve" is considered an abomination of public behavior. I really hate to use the term "snow flake" because people are entitled to their emotions and opinions, but give me a break. Somehow when someone asks "how do we keep losing fights" you are the toxic one for saying "because you guys keep going in 2v5" or "I told you no and you still leave lane to try and take my blue // now you're following me around taking my camps // you trying to lose? // idiot"somehow you are a bad person now. I guess that's it for my rant and if you think I am "blowing this out of the water" please tell me anything you would say in chat and I can tell you how "I" would find it offensive and toxic. I bet you won't be able to show me why chat shouldn't be permanently disabled when 90% of the time riot says "it's fine just mute everyone and lose your game, at least then you won't be restricted or banned."

course.

anyway, is there any chance that you can make a copy of your old knowledge base and get it stickied to this forum?

i was looking through it the other day and I was literally flabbergasted at how most of that information and situations mentioned haven't changed.
