I've played a game on my smurf some days ago in which I reported 2 people.

One was a Ryze who just spammed "f**s" more than once, and he got punished. The other was a Miss Fortune who just started complaining about stuff (I was support) and then she answered me "kys" after I said something (that was not an insult or something toxic at all).

Well, I've just noticed that she hasn't been punished. As far as I remember, "kys" is a zero tolerance word that results in an instant punishment, yet that guy is still playing and I doubt he even got a chat restriction. So... I suppose that a single "kys" doesn't get you punished? Or maybe there's some tolerance when the player who says it has got no reports or punishments before?

You have to report for the system to pick it up. That's the caveat.

Yes, I did report her, and I even got a notification that was probably related to Ryze's report.

As for MF, nothing. The guy is still there playing and doing stuff, so I asked myself if "kys" is really a no tolerance word like people claim on the boards.

Did they spell it weird or with a space or something? If so, it might have slipped by. I would submit a support ticket.

Don't be fooled by such a small sample.

It's a very punishable offense, and you can see a number of folks complaining about being banned for it right here on the front page. Unfortuntley, the system is far from perfect, and errs on the side of leniency as far as I can tell. So yes, folks will slip through occasionally. But I find that folks spamming things like "kys" will do so in more than just one game, so I'm sure that guy will be banned eventually.

Well I don't really care if she gets punished or not tbh, I just wanted to know more about how this system works. Apparently, sometimes, it doesn't work at all.

Sometimes, yeah. Hard to say how often that truly is. Far as I can tell, it's a rare exception.

Smurfing isn't against the rules, assuming you're not intentionally tanking your rating. Pros and streamers do it all the time.

I don't know what he was saying, I'll still reply here so he has a chance to see: I agree that smurfing destroys the integrity of ranked, especially in low elo. But the thing with smurfs is that you have a very low chance to find people who are actually high elo smurfing in silver/gold.

For example, I made this smurf to play with gold/low plat friends in flex (I'm d4 in flex so I can't play with a lot of them), and I got placed in silver 2. Now after like 8 wins I'm gold 5 skipping my promos because of how high my MMR is, so I'm playing with plat or even low diamond people despite being gold 5.

What I'm trying to say is that it happens to be matched with or against smurfs, but it will be for a game at best. After being placed, MMR grows so fast that they'll leave lower elos in a few wins and I guess that a single game won't change much for you to eventually climb.

Tl;dr: smurfing is wrong, but it's not as bad as people claim.

The system only notifies you of a player being punished if they were punished before playing another game after the one they played with you. If they are reported in another game after the one you played with them and then they get punished only the reporters in that game will receive a popup.

Often times the "kys" goes along with other behavior that also contributed to their punishment. As such some people are punished for other things besides just saying "kys" but they don't realize it because they know they said "kys" and that's all they ever considered toxic.

That is inaccurate and unreliable, as sometimes players receive chat restrictions and you have no way of accurately determining what happened with your report.
Why on earth would you look them up afterwards? You will likely never see them again, they can't affect your games in the future. You're literally holding on to anger over them that they will never know about, and that will only serve to raise your own blood pressure. let it go, holding onto this benefits you in no way whatsoever.

I was looking at my smurf's op.gg and I just found that game. Then I thought "hey, let's see if the system is as accurate as Riot claims it to be". I saw that the Ryze was punished and the MF was still playing after days, that's it. I don't really care if they get punished or not, I have nothing against them and I always mute people I find annoying, I have no reason to go check their op.gg daily and celebrate when they get banned, that's disturbing lmao

Edit: and to answer your question more directly, zero tolerance isn't precisely predictable. There are some additional rules behind the scenes that factor into whether or not punishments are given. I don't know the rules, but it explains why not every instance is punished the same.

Yeah there might be a bit of tolerance if it's uncharacteristic of said player. Who knows. Doesn't really matter anyways. Could have gotten a chat restrict, could be a typically really nice player who was tilted and took your question as passive aggressive or sarcastic, so they did an uncharacteristic thing and said kys. Then because of their clean record, Riot gave them a pass. That person might be on thin ice now if they do it again.

This has happened to me multiple times as well. People getting away with typing "kys" while I got banned for saying it before (yes I reported them)

The instant feedback system, where players are instantly banned for 14 days or permabanned for saying "zero tolerance" words, requires the words on the zero tolerance list be typed out fully, with no misspellings or ties to other characters... Twice.

That's right folks, it's a "one tolerance" rule, not zero. Once is fine, twice you're done. As long as you don't repeat another one tolerance word in your next few games, you're in the clear. For the record, kys is on the zero tolerance list, however typing "kill yourself", is not.

There are very few of these triggers left, and even the most basic obfuscation of the spelling now bypasses the system completely. Interestingly enough, you can be racist to white people all you want because there are no zero tolerance words for them. Just don't be racist to asians, blacks, or hispanics. Some of those certain words ARE zero ("one") tolerance. It has already been explained on the boards here that people aren't racist towards whites and they have privilege, therefore no zero tolerance words need to be blocked.

don't see the problem, i typed kys in a game and nothing happened, so I'm going to have to say you have to be doing crazy shit to even get chat restricted
