There is no requirement that you have to communicate at all with your team, no. It's helpful, certainly, but you will not be punished for choosing not to do so.

That said, a MIA ping every now and again is considered polite.

I recommend using more pings and getting in the habit of checking the mini map more for them. You can keep your chat on til someone says something negative then mute that person. Keep the chat on so you can say things like "baron, drag, going bot, mia". Sometimes its even helpful to remind your allies "ping on top of me" so the pings aren't just random sound happening while you're mid fight. Muting the whole enemy team at start isn't a bad idea, although I think if you see someone being unsportsmanlike in all chat you help the rift by quietly reporting them and moving to your next game.

I hardly talk in game unless its play calls or ping/ward requests. If you say something and get met with toxicity, don't fall into the trap of responding to whatever it is, just mute and pretend no one answered. Mute is your friend

To sum up the reasoning behind wanting chat on at first is information. You can get a feel for whose going to back your plays and whose just going to be toxic and play selfishly. Learning to play around your random allies is just as important as reading the enemy :)

hope this helps

It is polite to ping when your lane is missing or you see something going on, but it is not strictly required.

You won't be punished for toxic chat.

If you're using non-communication to purposefully lose the game, there are scenarios where you could receive a punishment.

No. In no situation is not using the in-game chat a punishable offense.

[Gameplay question} Does Ashe have more AD ratio scaling than Lucian was playing a lowbie match and we had same item build item 3812 item 3072 item 3031 but she had 70+ ad, and always won trade off damage

It's toxic if you won against a 5v4, but because you disabled allchat, you don't even know if they lagged out or not, or if they wish to be ended.
