The real problem with this community.

Firstly, one of the most complained about parts of League of Legends is the player community itself. Many believe that the worst part of this community is the toxic player. However, I believe that the absolute worst kind of player in the League of Legends community is the person who simply refuses to play with the rest of the team. Someone is raging? Oh well, at least they're playing with you.

In my last several ranked games I have come into contact with more and more people who just simply refuse to play the game. For example, I am playing adc and my support picks akali(real scenario) and says "I've been trying for like 2 days to get an S on her". So, what is the biggest problem with this? Well, you have champion that needs solo lane experience to keep up in a duo lane where the experience is being shared. After being starved of experience needed for the champion Akali's decides that is that she refuses to cooperate with the team decides to roam around and farm completely ignoring pings, conversation, and fights even if she was within sight of it. This players decision to play support Akali directly led to the loss of the game.

I started the season in Bronze V and so far have made it up to Silver II with a 56% win rate. I have lost the last 10 ranked games straight, now Silver III, (not due to a troll or someone tilting off super hard) simply to people who do not want to play the game with other people. I would much prefer someone swearing and insulting me the entire time who is still trying to play with the team rather than simply playing their own game. This kind of behavior, especially in ranked, needs to be a punishable offense. Myself and many others want to learn how to be better and to play better. I make mistakes all the time and I absolutely without a doubt have much more to learn about the game and how to play effectively. I also know that many more people want to get better at the game too.

Having someone on your team who is playing their own game and not cooperating with the team, purposefully, is arguably less useful as having someone who is afk from start to finish which statistically drops your chance of winning the game by 14%. Wait... How is having an afk better? Because the person who is afk can't give away free gold. Someone who is totally ignoring what the team is doing could be vulnerable or unknowingly working against what the rest of the team is trying to accomplish. Not to mention if the other team notices what is happening and then knows that they have a 5V4 fight nearly every time because the other person will not be with the team. The other problem with this is that, I don't want to play a ranked game with an Akali support who offers me nothing and puts our team at a huge utility disadvantage. I don't want to play it at all but if i dodge.... I get punished? So, dodge or pretty much guarantee a loss. Isn't that still just being punished in a way?

The punishment would work as such:

  1. Ranked exclusive report feature.
  2. Requires report from at least three of the other four teammates.
  3. Possibly a way that the matchmaking system avoids players that have been reported consistently for a period of time.
  4. Matches players that have been reported consistently for this together for a period of time.

It might just be me but I have a strong feeling that there are many more people who have this same problem. In my opinion, these people are the absolute worst of the League of Legends community and this is a very bad problem that needs to be dealt with in one way or another.

Leave your thoughts in the comments, thanks in advance.

There was misconception of what the "Refusing to Communicate" category was for. If a player didn't respond or ping MIA etcetera, another player could see that one instance as "Refusing to Communicate" and report the player.

This however had no effect as almost nobody was punished for "Refusing to Communicate" which is why Riot removed the category.

For cases like this, it's best to use "Intentionally Feeding" if they're rushing into fights they would obviously lose or "AFK" if they roamed without contributing to the team. Be sure to include an explanation in the box.

I agree with both of you completely. There needs to be a report category based on this specific behavior that comes with its own set of consequences for being reported for this consistently, such as being matched strictly with players who are consistently reported for the same thing for a period of time.
