Please mute chat by default

Riot, can you please mute chat/all chat by default. I know communication is important, but I think I have lost more games due to flaming than won games due to teams coordinating via chat. Just make the feature one where you have to actually manually activate it in games. I know it sounds stupid, but having that extra barrier i think would go a long way.

Edit- I feel like I am not communicating this well. I have no problem pushing the mute button, however i cannot make my other teammates who are flaming each other press mute. THAT is what i am getting at. On top of it, communicating in chat in general doesnt really help win the game in most situations, but it does often aid in a loss.

There are settings in the menu to disable /all chat. You can individually mute anyone you want.

Riot is not going to cripple communication for anyone by default. Just as the responsibility is on you to tune out things IRL, it's your responsibility here too.

this is mainly talking about chat via teammates. I cannot speak for everyone, but I have yet to win a game because of communication in chat..I have lost plenty of games due to communicating in chat tho. Pings are all that is needed.

That isn't the point. I can control me, but i cannot control bot lane flaming top lane, or jg flaming bot lane and THAT being the primary reason the entire team loses. Too many games have been lost due to toxic flaming. Again, I don't see too many games won because of in chat communication. As a matter of fact, most of my smoothest games have very little, if any typing at all.

You can mute everyone if you want. I'm not understanding where you're going here. Riot is not going to turn off all chat by default and make it opt-in. You're using anecdotal evidence about what's happened to you. I certainly don't have flamers ruining games for me constantly, and if one person's being a dickshit, I mute them.

he wants to control his teammates' mutes. he wants THEM to be forcibly have mute all FOR THEM turned on by default. That's his silly point. just NO!

Eh, I don't think it's a silly point - it's just not what Riot wants to do. The goal is to find ways to foster better communication, not turn it off and make it opt-in. I find the best way to have a good chat experience is to not take myself too seriously. That and poop humor. Everyone likes poop humor.

Point is many of us type /mute all or /fullmute all at the start of every game. Since the option is there why shouldn't Riot give players like us the option to go into settings and disable chat entirely? Why should we be forced to type /mute all EVERY game if we do not want to hear our teams communication?

This is a team game. They want to foster good communication. Look, I don't want to start making accusations, but people who think all in game communication is toxic have only one thing in common in all of their games - themselves. This doesn't mean you're the one starting trouble, but you need to not react to the troublemakers either.

The options are already there for you to play in your preferred style - which is with pings only. God help the boards if they ever made mute all by default, it will be 28 pages of "Communication in this game sucks" threads a day.

Actually I mute all pings with /fullmute all. Pings are more often used to BM than to actually communicate and nothing is more tilting than being in a life and death struggle and have a question mark ping go off 10x.

You're late to the party, communication already sucks in this game because the majority of it is toxicity. Let those of us who want to avoid it have an easier option to do so.

They don't want to make lack of communication easier. You have all the options you need, sorry it takes a couple keystrokes. Look, you mute pings, you mute chat, you mute everything because you want to exist in some sort of bubble. I don't get it, and we're not going to agree. You must be a peach in game.

I mean... I wouldn't mind having a checkbox to disable chat entirely. Some games already do it and I'm disappointed Riot has not followed suit. The ping system is already there for communication and does its job fairly well frequently from my experience.

I believe /all is already muted by default because it makes sense to not listen or trust the enemy team chat. Muting your own team mates doesn't make sense unless you feel their messages are doing more harm than good. But I don't mind them adding the option to mute chats as soon as game starts.

It's highly more probable that you just remember the negative and discount the neutral chat. How about the jungler asking for a hard leash? That one move doesn't auto win the game, but might set them up to gain their power spike earlier.

How about the jungler saying red, scuttle then mid gank? Once again not game winning on its own, but it does give time for the laner to set the table for a gank.

You are right you don't HAVE to communicate to win, but it can make it a hell of a lot easier. I play a lot of supp, and it's pretty obvious when the opponent bot lane is in voice chat together.

This isnt about not communicating, of course it is important, which is why riot has pings implemented. Those "hard leash" things are an acceptation, however for everyone one of those, I can play 10 games, and I guarantee a game will be made more difficult due to folks flaming each other over simple mistakes/ misplays. The focus, in my opinion, then shifts from focusing on the goal at hand...winning the game, to focusing on defending your ego via flame. Again, yes I can mute all, and it does work, however if again top is flaming bot, regardless of if I mute, it doesn't fix the issue. An issue that really, overall doesn't add any NEEDED element into the game. I am speaking from a POV of Mid gold-Silver, so maybe up in Plat+ this changes, but where MOST players are playing, the element isn't needed and is the cause of more games being lost than won.

You can change your chat size in the config to -1000, then make it read only, have fun, helped me when i raged to much.

The hard leash was just one example of many and no they can't be communicated through pings unless your team, for some reason, turn the pings into langauge. Alright guys if I ping the dragon, double question mark top and do two "on my way" pings to bot tower with in 5 seconds of each other it means I'm going infernal after red, top look for the tp play, bot push out hard and rotate. As I said, a lot of game talk happens and you don't even notice it because you shouldn't , it's just part of the game. However, that one game out of ten that the support is flaming the adc constantly is going to really stick.

Honestly, I'm always the guy who says that my ability to shotcall shouldn't be penalized just because toxic players can't keep it in their pants, but I'm really coming around to this line of reasoning. Chat in this game is feeling like a lost cause these days.

It's really sad that I've been playing about 100% URF lately, and people still feel the need to flame each other over mistakes. It's a for-fun game mode that usually takes much less time than regular games, involving players using champs that they're often extremely unfamiliar with, yet half my games involve the classic "Report X for trolling" any time somebody has a negative KDA.

I get what your saying in this thread, I've been playing since season 4 and I'm at the point where I'm tired of the negative chat. I like chat in game, but when its constantly negative its sucks the fun out of it. Think i'm going to auto mute people for a while and see if the fun comes back. Its tough though because when its positive it can make the game a lot more fun, just like you said its led to more losses than wins.
