Why are so many Summoners like this?

I was recently chat restricted for, as riot support explained it, "arguing" in chat. That was the worst thing I did..... So naturally, I'm trying to be more conscientious with my in-game conversation. I don't want to lose my account. In a match today the adc says she accidentally took the wrong runes and was obviously not hopeful about it. I said to encourage her, "Don't worry. You'll be fine. You got this!". She was Tristana after all and I was trying to keep it positive. Her reply? She said she was "going to int in my lane just for being nice". That is literally what she said. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

She then proceeded to troll me and harrass me with question mark pings the entire game. I muted her directly after her inting remark. Wasn't about to make the same mistake that got me chat restricted in the first place. But still I had to deal with a toxic person, FOR BEING NICE.

I've always tried to be nice, but then this community turns on me. Like wtf. This kind of shit happens in most of my games and riot has a "no self defense allowed" policy. Which is a terrible policy to have when the reporting system does not work and so many players are toxic or trolling with no reprecussion. Today only solidified in my mind, once again, that the chat feature is a negative feature in this game and the report system does not work when people who are actually trolling or being toxic get reported.

you still going on harping about how people don't get punished? Even after you got punished and how this board is filled with people complaining about their punishment?

Well, until I see a better game experience where my games aren't filled with toxic, trolling people, then yeah I have zero faith in the report system.

the problem is that punishment isnt accurate enough. People such as op are wrongfully getting punished while even if the original offending party does get punished they are effectively not punished since op was punished as well. ie if everyone gets punished then noone gets punished.

I dunno about the "wrongfully punished" part. Based on his chatlogs, it was certainly a correct punishment.

i think his point was more in the effectiveness of it in reforming player behavior rather than the accuracy and frequency of people getting punished for toxic behavior

In what way is flaming a troll self-defense? It's actually giving them exactly what they want. Especially if they explicitly said they'd int your lane, just report them afterwards and move on. They'll get banned. GG no re

Problem is they don't. I almost never receive a notification that my report did anything. But question, why is your focus on my past chat restriction that I received for arguing with toxic people? I did what riot asked in today's game. I was nice, I muted this toxic person who flamed me for being nice, and said nothing when they proceeded to troll me and spam question mark ping.

How is this person's behavior ok? How do they not receive punishment for this kind of thing? And don't tell me it was just a "bad day" for them, because that's bull. That means nearly every game has someone in it experiencing a "bad day".[sg-lux-2]

You don't always get a notification. Only time you do is when your report triggered the punishment.

I know that, but I feel this is part of the problem. People who get shat on in most of their games by trolls and toxic players and are following the rules by "muting and reporting" these players see no action being taken on their behalf.

Thats you seeking retribution. There isnt any self defense to someone being a jackass in a game. You cant argue them into behaving better. You did the right thing by muting/ignoring/reporting. You did good, they did bad, and the game was over and you could move on to another most likely without that troll in it. Anyone who behaves that way will have that account banned, and the next one they make, and the next one. They are wasting hours of their life trying to ruin the game for other people, and you can be spending your time having fun playing the game. You remember the trolls way more vividly than the games you win and everyone was cool, or lost and everyone was cool about it. If you think it will help you because you're focused on the community and toxicity start a log and record how many games you play where someone is truly toxic. A couple comments in a losing game is frustration not toxic.

Flaming =/= arguing. Riot thinks talking back to trolls is itself an offense lol

When you think the report system doesn't work after it clearly worked on you while you were being toxic? Huh?

FYI too -- the whole "but mommy he started first!" doesn't work. That should've been lesson you learned during your first year of school. The only time under the rule of law where self defense becomes legal is when your actual physical life is in danger of harm (e.g. someone rushing at you with a knife).

I wasn't being toxic though. I was arguing with toxic trolls. That's what got me chat restricted. I even contacted support to see why I was chat restricted and "arguing" was the best they could give me.

I received my only punishment ever (a five game chat restriction) a couple of years ago after two games in a row where I was matched with a duo that did nothing but flame me. What started it: We won a skirmish bot lane but my adc was low. Instead of recalling, like I did, she remained to take the turret and Quinn (old ult Quinn) swooped in and assassinated her. I was blamed, to which I replied 'It was your own fault for not recalling, not mine.' It led to arguing back and forth in both games between the mid and adc duo (truly self defense. I never cursed, never got angry, simply defended my actions and gameplay decisions) . People can say it takes more than that to get punished, but I'm convinced it was triggered with four reports within two back to back games (the report system was different back then).

But now I try to be a positive influence in my games, the same as you ( 'Don't worry guys, we got this' ) and while it's never been met with a threat to feed, I have been told to shut the fuck up and other insults. Just for being nice.

So we're just supposed to take the abuse, according to Riot. Muting only does so much when they can also int and troll and throw the game. ...I would rather tell the abuser that their behavior is ridiculous, but that's frowned upon I guess. All I can say is I feel the pain of this thread.

I’m really sorry that happened, that’s an incredibly sucky person. I do think it’s hyperbole to say that it happens in most of your games or is even common. I say friendly things in chat all the time and almost always people take it well. There are trolls, like that Tristana, but they’re the exception, not the rule. Report and move on is all we can do, don’t let it get to you :)

Wish I had more people like you in my games. And no, I'm not exaggerating. My in-game experience is that 9 times out of 10 there will be someone trolling by inting, afk or the like, or someone who is straight up toxic in chat.

That doesn't track, in your last 10 non-ARAM matches you only had 6 games where people went negative, and at least half of those people didn't even go very far negative. I'd expect to see worse KDAs for inting. Please remember that dying a lot isn't the same thing as inting.

Your confirmation bias may be getting the best of you.

Your original post complained about a specific case of a player who literally inted after you were nice to them, then you implied that people act that horribly (although maybe not in the same way) in most of your games.

When questioned about it you said that people act horribly in 9 games out of 10 that you play.

That's absurd, and I can't help but be extremely skeptical of your claim.

Lol what a jackass. You gotta just roll your eyes and laugh at people like that... and of course report them. Flaming them will only make them happy that they're really pissing you off, so even if it wasn't against the rules to flame them, you still should avoid it. Trolls want you to flame. They want to see those sweet salty tears flowing through chat.

League punishment system has turned into every school I've been to. The kid who punched me in the face, at most, gets the same punishment I do. In some cases he can get a buddy to say the opposite happened and I get punished alone despite having no record while he's a constant troublemaker. Fair is fair right? Haha...hahaha.....

or

so subtle, that text can barely tell you. in fact, I need to ask you something, I am being honest and trying to help you understand, or I am making fun of you?

Sounds like you should just stop talking then. Some people don't want to hear "Hey, you got this friend!" Just play the game and congratulate when they're doing well. I personally have never had anyone rage over me being nice to them, that's just bizarre.
