Responding to Harassment

So, I've been having trouble lately with people acting terribly in matches. I've heard all the things they'll say, and that's not what is important. I feel like how I respond to it is what is giving me issues, since obviously people have been reporting me and the automated system thinks I'm out of line. I know I can get reported for simply responding in a negative manner. Any tips for responding in a better way?

Mute them. You'll play better, and maybe they'll shut up and start playing better when they realize nobody is responding to them.

Or not respond at all... So many people have gotten banned for responding to others harassing them. Unfortunately any online game begins out those "badass" 12 year olds who think they are the SH!T . Just ignore them and keep on keepin on!
