So, I've been having trouble lately with people acting terribly in matches. I've heard all the things they'll say, and that's not what is important. I feel like how I respond to it is what is giving me issues, since obviously people have been reporting me and the automated system thinks I'm out of line. I know I can get reported for simply responding in a negative manner. Any tips for responding in a better way?

Yeah, I had the guy in my next game (on the opposing team), and I had him blocked. It made me feel a lot better when I was able to concentrate.

Anyone at my elo is smarter than a twelve year old. These are people with a brain, who are trying to be hurtful.

I understand why the mute function is there, but what if this person says something that I should report him for? Muting will protect myself, but reporting protects the community as a whole.

Muting someone doesn't prevent you from reporting them.

It may not prevent me, but I like my reports to be accurate. I'm not going to report a person simply because I think that they're going to do something wrong. I'd rather they actually deserve the report.
