why are players not instanty suspened for telling someone to kys?

I've been told to kill myself about 100 times in the last month on league. just wondering. Almost no words in English include kys in them... should be pretty easy to automate.

That's pretty dumb. I get that we are all tired of toxicity, but having someone immediately being banned for saying kys is a little extreme.

Me: Start Krugs, making sure you kill yourself[Dear Summoner, you have been permanently banned.]

If you're emotionally unstable, and contemplating suicide, is "kys" or any variation thereof especially likely to push you over the edge? More so than, say, "you're worthless" or something?

I kind of doubt it. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that's not how suicidal mentalities work.

If there were some demonstrated correlation between people being told to kill themselves in League games and people actually killing themselves, then this might be a good idea. Without concrete evidence, there's no point to it. (If only it were so easy to save lives. :( )

I wish!

If we're writing a "words that instantly ban your account, set your computer on fire, and emails your porn collection to your workplace" filter, I'd also add in the words "or I feed".

MisterSki4/6/2017, 6:02:35 AM6 votes

How about you just mute them? Just a thought and I am guessing that you fed because nobody tells the guy carrying the game to KYS.

Lancerblader4/5/2017, 11:15:19 PM6 votes

to be fair automating it to that extent could lead to a lot a unjustified bans as well. for example if a guy was replying to a guy telling people to kys, say if he said somethin along the lines of "you shouldnt tell people to kys" then this would also trigger the automated ban because kys was present and the context wouldnt be taken into account

Because there is a mute button.

The term "kys" is now kinda League/gaming culture. If you've noticed that a lot of people and pros will say "kms" "kys" when shit happens. At first it kinda irritated me but now it's just like saying "fuck you".

weeaboomer4/6/2017, 6:32:59 AM4 votes

I don't agree. Plus, the word sort of became a meme and even I use it in a friendlier way that means no harm, not kys but "kiss yourself." I don't think joking with my friend when they know i don't literally mean it warrants a perma ban....

Butt hurt kids If you can't stand kys then please stop playing

Lapis4/5/2017, 10:40:27 PM4 votes

I'd like this, but, maybe still keep a person looking over them before punishment is taken or I would have been suspended more than once for typos while complaining about hextech keys

yay nibbers4/6/2017, 6:48:07 PM2 votes

Because automatically banning someone for saying specific words is a flawed, draconian way to handle toxicity in any capacity? Because context matters?

Keep yourself safe. Or at least that's what my aunt thought it meant, was kinda awkward getting that text on my birthday...

I propose immediate warning to those who say it with the promise of a followup should it be necessary. In the case of a misunderstanding it would be tragic for this to happen, in the case it was literal they should get the one chance to cease in this behavior.

Astrovert4/7/2017, 5:35:58 PM2 votes

It is more than clear Riot gives players way to many chances at "being toxic" than they should be allowed to be.

By the time Riot gets around to actually punishing people they believe their behavior is allowed.

A lot of responses to my original post. more than i would expect.

A few things to make points about

  1. I personally do not care is people want me to die. But it is not unreasonable to believe others do. I have concern for those players.
  2. Muting the team/all preemptively isn't really a good option. As one can see from the poorly thought out support singed logic the Riot has put on the forums (but nowhere in the actual rules) If you get reported for making others feel they had a bad in game experience they will say you didn't communicate some form of your playstyle and suspend / delete your account.
  3. even if you mute everyone 3-8 other people in the game can get tied up with people telling others to kill themselves. The message is still sent to your team or all chat regardless of if you see it.

It will be a sad, unfortunate, but interesting day when someone in the LOL community actually does kill themselves and cites league players telling them to. (among other things i would believe) Riot is opening themselves up to a gross/willful negligence lawsuit by not keeping the community up to the standards or the AUP and summoners code. Possibly even more, depending what country it occurs and what laws they have on internet companies regulating hate speech on electronic platforms.
