My Experience and Suggestion for AFKs during someone's promos

So we all dislike AFKs right (can't use hate. It's such a strong word)? So today, I used my smurf to duo with a friend with one win left out of two games to get to Gold. He's pretty much excited so I go Irelia mid against Diana (ez pez) while he goes Jax top against GP. Now about 10 mins later, I'm 2/0 and he's 1/1. We are doing okay in lane with a high chance of winning at the 31min mark. He's already thanking me for the duo and how he's finally Gold when bot lane gets killed and adc goes "retarded team" in team chat. Then supp goes "Report my team. So useless". I and my friend decided not to type and just kept playing. Next thing you know, "An ally has disconnected" and two seconds later, "An ally has disconnected". Now my friend is going crazy on Skype and is really pissed. I try to calm him down but man was I angry. I already knew it was lost cos bot lane kept pushing, I go bot to stop it, mid pushes and they just kept pushing until they won.

Now I reported them for AFK and negative attitude but the damage had already been done. My friend wasn't promoted and had only one game left which he might have lost. I just finished that game and we won. But I feel that going AFK during someone's promo and going afk when no one's in promo are two different things and should attract different levels of punishment. Just like AFK during normals is 2x less as serious as AFK during ranked.

So now what I propose is, a 5-10 game ranked restriction for first time AFK and 1 day ban for the second time AFK. I think this reduces the chances of anyone ragequitting in any game.

With the current setup, the first leave is generally considered to be a bit of a buffer. It definitely sucks to have someone leave your games, and I totally get that (it's the most annoying thing in the game for me), but we have to also consider this from the perspective of the other player. I've left maybe three games in the last five years, never intentionally, and I already end up feeling bad enough for letting people down. I'm not sure that tacking an additional restriction onto that initial buffer would accomplish a ton, since it's usually a mistake at that point anyway.

The current LeaverBuster system treats subsequent leaves extremely harshly, however. If a player develops even a small pattern of intentionally leaving games or consistent computer problems, LeaverBuster rapidly ramps things up until ultimately banning that player entirely.

Overall, I feel like the AFK solution currently in place is kinda doing what you want it to do, but it's really hard to notice that since each game is essentially a vacuum. You see a random sample of 9 people each game, and each person has his or her own unique set of circumstances. Maybe that botlane had never left games before, maybe they were on the edge of getting banned; it's pretty much impossible for you and me to know when we're in the moment with them.

People already rage about getting banned and chat restricted. How would you think they react when they are told they cannot play ranked and go up in the ladder? The problem should not revolve around someone's promos it should be around the AFK themselves. This is harder to detect but when it is pointed out they get punished all the same. Advice is to treat each game like a new one. Even if you get the same shit happening.

_He's already thanking me for the duo and how he's finally Gold _

Why is he claiming he's finally gold when he was even in lane and in game at this point?
