It only works when the servers are down or unavailable. It lets you reach the log-in screen but you still can't log in.

Oh ok... well, that sucks. I remember using this when the servers where unavailable to log in and play a game or two with the select few that also knew about this trick... good times.

Back in the day for me, it'd be freeze at 0%, 33%, 99% and sometimes oh look I see you're at 30%, lemme just give you a 0% bar and say it's at 0% in a few moments and I'd be like FUUUUUUUU I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT'LL BE PATCHED!!!

All I remember is the huge downtime on I think the Draven release patch. Got in a queue and left the computer there for like an hour and the queue only got longer.
