@Riot: How Toxic was Urf?

EfficientDynamo·4/25/2016, 3:23:49 PM·14 votes·2,621 views

One of common refrains on the boards and on reddit this weekend was how toxic many players have been while playing Urf. I am not sure whether the mode makes it this way or whether lower MMR toxic players are suddenly intermingled with the rest of the population, but this weekend was pretty harsh.

@Rhojin or any other Rioter, can you give us a rough idea of whether this perceived spike in toxicity actually happened?

This is why I'm ok with URF only being on the weekend. I love the game mode, I hate the players who play it. I don't really play ranked much, but I've seen more toxicity in URF than I have in Ranked.

urf causes rage and toxicity among the ones who play this mode competetively.

imagine u are seriously trying to win a game played very seriously and got destroyed by infinite wukong clone/fizz trollpoll/vlad pool. and the players who played these broken shit often bm in /all chat and with emotes.

it is obvious and understanding for people to rage at this.

Oh man every single game i played had some toxic person. There was this Malphite who went top with me against a Ahri Morgana (perma cc so like) he got super freaking salty and presumed to feed the entire game. So yea Urf was really really toxic this time i'm so suprised

Nobody was toxic in any of my games. All what, 8 of them.

on the 2nd day of URF in about 50% of my games people called me a f.aggot a retard an asshole and all kind of vulgar names when I ban OP URF champions and then of course proceeded to leave champions select because sa.tan forbid you can't tryhard.

Well I mean, I got three death threats and some Kha'zix player to give out a fake or real don't know IP Address, compared to playing normals and getting 18 Death Threats in 2 matches :o

I should've just played normals this weekend to enjoy less toxic games.

Aryzyra4/25/2016, 9:07:30 PM1 votes

Played 34 games of urf, and only noticed one toxic player (told me to kill myself when I leveled to 2 in the jungle before joining lane). So relatively very non-toxic in my experience. Luck of the draw.

I don't see why people are so toxic with it. Its like ARAM and shouldn't be taken seriously.

I thought Urf was less toxic then ranked.... I mean I only got told to KYS twice and called cancer. So definitely a improvement over ranked......Also I only played like 10 Urf games........

The reason URF was toxic was A) It is on the weekend, so many children and adults with issues will be on at the time. B) Because of the fact your ranked mmr isnt taken into account, so you have a bunch of cancerous silver players mingling with you.

Personally, I really enjoyed URF and didn't see that much toxicity. Most people understood that its just open season and break the meta/whatever. Played like 15 different champs wherever the hell I wanted. Was actually pretty awesome.

Vyxina4/26/2016, 12:34:40 AM1 votes

I was just having fun in urf. Testing out champs that I thought would be good/fun. They'd play the most known op champs like Shaco, Hecrim, Sona, Ezreal, Maokai, ect. And yet the enemy team would complain that Irelia was broken/they're tilted/they'd report me for cheating/ or that they'd report me just because. It wasn't a pleasant experience but fun nonetheless.

Everelda4/26/2016, 1:22:09 AM1 votes

for the most part i saw less toxicity.

though a couple games i asked why didn't they ban zed. then 10 mins in they complained about zed and i asked again why they didnt ban that poisonous champ they wanted to know why he kept getting fed and why i left lane entirely til they noticed that i had 30 farm at 8 mins and zed had nearly 100 but only 2 kills till he roamed (hey i wasn't about to over feed hm). no one wanted to answer why they didn't ban him while instead banning braum bard and morgana (sillies).

also i seriously didnt get why people kept banning katarina that with 1 second stun timers almost every katerina i saw played just moved in got some damages and then died usually not a kill gained.(only exception was the game i played as katarina even against cho i just ate the targets around him and he eventually just ate me but that 2/3 for 1 kept my team going)

I only played about 10 matches of URF, but I didn't run into anyone extremely toxic. I actually don't recall anyone being toxic, except maybe a quip here or there.

Very Epic Guy4/26/2016, 11:50:33 AM1 votes

Extremely toxic games. It was really only good the first time around, but since then it has attracted the very worst kinds of assholes...

For example, there was this Zed who decided everyone on his team was retarded, should get cancer, and have their entire families beheaded in front of them. Checked his match history later, nothing nut URF Zed games. He claimed he was farming IP

Spaceman5pff4/26/2016, 3:37:04 PM1 votes

If you consider Graves dashing every auto to be toxic, then yeah

Hullabaloo9074/26/2016, 3:58:35 PM1 votes

Urf was always a joke.

AeroWaffle4/25/2016, 3:31:27 PM1 votes

In many of my games several of the players were pretty overcritical of how people played, what champions was picked, and what was banned.

The game mode brought a feeling of helplessness whenever you were put up against a powerful champion that was fed. You died in less than a second and could do nothing about it.

SonaTitsAndAss4/25/2016, 3:36:56 PM1 votes

i think urf needs 2 modes pure with all champs unlocked and filted with the true disgusting shit like zed shaco ect banned by default.

I think I played roughly 20 games, of which there were maybe one or two people that were toxic (granted, I played with a team of 5 of my friends so we played against roughly 100 opponents), meaning that for my very small sample size, there was only a 2% toxicity ratio. Sorry for small sample size, and this was just my experience, I know that people have different eprsonal definitions of toxicity and of course have different people in their games

Mistral4/25/2016, 7:28:34 PM1 votes

I managed to get 4 man premades for URF each time but that one random guy often flipped out. It's kind of funny when the one solo person is raging and wanting back up on their opinions, from the other members of the premade.
