🔒 If you get a 14 day account ban, the next punishment is PERMABAN

...so think twice before you continue the behavior that landed you in a 14 day ban. Riot will not lift a permaban that wasn't made by mistake.

Don't wait til your account is permanently closed before you decide you're going to reform. Is telling off that troll worth your own account? If they are toxic then they are on their way to get their own punishment by Riot; verbally attacking them doesn't make that happen any faster.

Punishments are done in a 4-step escalating system; <--check this awesome link

  • 10 game chat restriction
  • 25 game chat restriction
  • 14 day account ban
  • Permanent account ban

Every 3 months without punishment your next tier will drop once. That means if you get a 14 day ban and your next is a perma, if you get by for 3 months then it will drop down one and your next punishment will be a 14 day ban instead. 3 additional months and it'll go down to 25 and next to 10.

Edit 6/29/16: You will drop tiers over time but showing reform is also a factor. This either changed or was inaccurate to begin with.

Think on it right now if you're going to regret getting a permaban. If you will, then you'd be wise to reform before that. (also keep in mind that extremely toxic behavior can get your punishment escalated multiple tiers)

That's not entirely accurate. 2 years ago I got handed a 14-day ban (my first ever punishment) for chat related toxicity. I wasn't exhibiting racism, homophobia, personal threats, or even personal insults ("lol noob", etc.); I just kept arguing with toxic instigators and wouldn't let them have the last word.

I'm not trying to justify my behavior that got punished, but this "escalating punishment system" is blatant bullshit.

It is really sad that a player felt the need to inform the public on this change.

Downvoted because no one should be permanently banned for something that DOES NOT AFFECT GAMEPLAY AND CAN BE STOPPED WITH THE MUTE BUTTON.

There's no reason someone who paid for skins should get their account banned just for being as rude as everyone in this community is KNOWN FOR BEING.

Just because some people (You) aren't smart enough to press TAB and click the mute button, doesn't mean someone who isn't intentionally ruining the game through gameplay should be prevented from playing. (Or be wrongfully stolen from, for things that come with playing an online game)

If you want a game without this amount of toxicity, then you want to stop playing online games. There isn't one community of more than 100 players that isn't like this. Yes, some are nice people, but that ratio is the same as well.

After receiving a 14-day ban back in September, I can say the system works. I was never an inherently toxic person on my own, but I allowed other peoples attitudes affect my own and would often counter flame the flamer, resulting in punishment after punishment.

The 14-day ban put things in perspective for me and I started thinking about what I needed to do to change. I knew I wouldnt be able to change the fact that toxicity and trolling would make me want to lash out at the person responsible, so I started developing ways to feel like I am letting out my anger on them without actually doing it.

My tips to you guys would be this:

Discrete Passive-aggressiveness. Recently I have been disguising my retaliation to toxicity as an annoyingly positive attitude. So positive that it cant possibly be real.

Ex:

Riven : That was really stupid. Are you bronze?

Jax : Sorry friend! We will get them next time! :^)

This sends them the message that in spite of their attempts to put me down, I am having a good time, even if I am not. What this says to them is that they are the only one being impacted by their attitude which not only pisses them off, but usually results in them shutting up.

If for any reason, you feel like you can't pretend anymore, just drop a ":^)" and mute them.

I Honestly and Sincerely want a Setting in my Options Menu to just remove the Chat box altogether when it comes to opponents, allies messages. Leave me pings and Baron/Dragon Notifications. That's all I need to see. Anything else will just keep me Angry and ranting like a Rabid frothbeast

It really is a joke. I was put into a party before with four jerks who were all in a Skype call together and decided to pick on me. I tried to just ignore them and once in awhile counter one of their hateful comments with something sarcastic. When the match was over, all four of them reported me and Riot's automated system banned me for 14 days. The report system is so easily abused.

It's like it was made by a group of middle-schoolers who went to a computer summer class once. Sigh...

But I'm sure Riot won't get off their duff and fix it because all they care about is money.

not quite accurate.. i just got my very first punishment yesterday. 14 day ban. i was getting trolled by my entire team, and of course since i had to retort to all of them...I'm the one that has to say more...and I'M the one that gets banned. Well played tribunal.
