Circumstances of toxicity not excuses
**The goal of this thread is not to make excuses. The goal of this thread is to explain circumstances so that people might consider empathy towards each other. **
It all starts BEFORE champ select.
Click team builder. Support is ALWAYS the most needed role. That is toxicity. Very few people want to help others, they instead want to carry others.
Then you get into champ select. You see 3 "squishy physical damage dealers", no support, no tank. Chances of winning with such a team composition? Very low. So you click find another group.
Literally 20 groups with the exact same problem go by. You have now spent 10 minutes just trying to get ANY amount of thought put into an actual team composition. At this point you are also temporarily chat restricted for going through so many groups.
Let's sum up so far: No one wants to support you, no one is interested in team synergy, and you are chat restricted. The game hasn't even started and already looks very toxic in my opinion.
So group 21 actually has some semblance of thought put into it. Righto, let's get into the game.
Minions have not spawned. Your jungler is sitting at a camp. They have pinged 10 times and chat spammed at least 5 times for a leash. (Pro tip: guard the entrance of your jungle instead of standing at the camp. At the very least use your trinket ward.) This particular jungler is already playing bad before the minions have even spawned. That is extremely demoralizing and gets my vote for being toxic. (Pro tip: go into a custom game and experiment with your jungle route BEFORE you go into PVP.)
Or you get the lovely people that just want to make sure the team is aware they have the wrong runes. PSA: nothing good comes from telling people you have the wrong runes. If you picked the wrong runes on accident, keep it to yourself.
The examples can go on, the point being, you are painfully aware very early into the game that some of your team mates are going to be a burden. You have spent 10+ minutes finding a game only to find out you are automatically playing from behind. Keep in mind, nothing toxic is being said here; and yet, the game has already become toxic.
Morals of the story?
- Cut people some slack. They go through so much negativity it is hard to come out positive. Threatening to ban them won't help.
- "Team" is the key word. Try to work together. This includes champ select.
- Be humble. Acknowledge advice that is given. Apologize when you make a mistake.
Benefits of these morals?
- Significantly less toxicity on a grand scale.
- Closer/fairer games.
