How did you come to play League of Legends?

Tell me your story.

Some guy and I played WoW together, but we'd never met in real life. He was just a friend of a friend. I got a job working at the Lasertag place he managed, and we became good friends. After about a year, he mentioned that he played League. At the time, it wasn't so huge that I was crazy for not having heard of it. He told me it was based off of the game called Dota, which I really hadn't played much either. Eventually, after many attempts and telling me it was free, I installed it.

My first time playing was pretty intimidating. It was very different from anything I'd played. At first, admittedly, I did not like it. I uninstalled after doing the tutorial. After a few more months, I came back and played. It took me weeks of playing inconsiently before I got my first win streak, but when that happened, I was hooked.

What about you? Did it happen by chance or was it bound to happen eventually?

EDIT: Reading these, many of them sound like they were completely by accident :P

I googled: "Free online multiplayer games" around the start season 2.

That's really it.

College friend had an extra beta key and nobody else to give it to.

My friends talked about lol every time and I haven't played any real pc-games before so I decided to try it out, (since they were like, hey, games are for friendship, u kno?) and yeah, I'm really enjoying it now.

My friends wouldn't play Halo with me. They were playing this stupid PC game called League of Legends. :P Eventually I caved to the pressure and downloaded, then was lucky enough to have one of my friends be a really good teacher. Eventually something clicked and I stopped feeding.

Now I love it just FYI.

My buddy, whom in the past has been my Co-leader in many Counter-strike: Source teams and WoW guilds, just one day installed league, after being convinced himself by others to try it, and told me I "NEED TO GET THIS GAME". He only says that when a game is good. I installed, I did the tutorial, received the free IP, and bought LULU. Haven't stopped playing til I started way back nearing the end of Season 2.

My brother played the closed beta, and he talked about it. In curiosity I made an account when it was released about a month(?) after it's official release. I don't know the exact time frame, but I remember Mordekaiser being the newest champion like two weeks after I joined and had gotten really into this game.

I remember browsing the web watching Youtube vids, after seeing an ad for LoL for about the fourth or fifth time I said, "Fuck it, let's take a look at it." I was still young then, and I made my account around the time Malzahar was released.

After the tutorial I played one or two games then I just quit cause I didn't understand it at all; plus I had that mentality of, "If I don't understand it, it's a bad game.". Boy was I ever wrong! I only played on and off from there with a few friends (I remember during Varus and Draven releases being those times.). One friend in specific I always played with but he was getting sick of the game; So he finally uninstalled around mid-season 2 and I never played again.

THEN, Around the start of season 3 (Vi Release) I've found a new group of friends at my new school and learned they knew about League of Legends and we all started playing together. I've been playing constantly since season 3 now and when I look back on it, I really wished I had played during season 1 when I had the chance.

I had a friend mention it, and show me A Twisted Fate. I wasn't all that interested in playing, but then a few of my friends at school would talk about it nonstop. I decided to give it a try last November, and here I am.

I think my curiosity for the game first started around Season 1. I used to read a lot of webcomics around that time, and just about every webcomic has at least some sort of advertisements. Since the webcomics that I was reading at the time were gaming themed webcomics, there were a lot of advertisements for online games. Now sometimes I would click on these advertisements, and watch a trailer or two, become disinterested due to the trailer being somewhat poorly done, and then I would always close out the tab the advertisement was in. However, I saw an advertisement for League of Legends, and in the advertisement was the Season 1 Trailer. I watched the trailer, and I was floored with how the game was presented in it. However, I wasn't sure if my computer could handle it, nor was I sure if my family was comfortable with me running League of Legends on the family computer, and closed out the window with the advertisement for League of Legends, but this was my first experience with playing the game.

A couple years later, in the middle of Season 2, I went to a gaming themed camp, and saw a bunch of other players playing League of Legends. I noticed that they were having fun with the game, and even though I didn't play it at the camp, it made me more curious about the game. A few months later I got a recommendation from a couple friends about the game. Finally, during preseason 3, I finally decided, with my family's permission, to try out the game.

Even though I didn't do so well in my first couple games, I had a lot of fun in them. I'm the kind of person who likes to try out a lot of different things, and I also like a lot of competitive multiplayer games, and League of Legends suited my tastes perfectly. It was challenging learning it for the first time because I was so used to console games, and PC games like League never really seemed to be in my interest and because of how difficult it is to learn a MOBA in general, but still, it was a fun challenge, trying to learn how to play the game better (and in some cases, how NOT to play the game, like staying in the lane all game without moving about the map and that stacking attack speed on Corki was not very good).

I had just gotten through playing WoW a ludicrous amount over the course of 5 years. Tried a few other MMOs and they didnt catch my attention for more than a couple months.

Saw Totalbiscuit do a video on LoL (one of his last Late Night LoLs funnily enough) and id enough a bit about it, but never had watched any of it. Went and downloaded it that night, and have been playing ever since.

No other game has come close to taking my attention from LoL more than short term.

Believe it or not, DOTA 2 made me start playing LoL.

I watched The latest International and was enamored by the casters and all the stuff going on. So I gave DOTA a try... and it was NOT fun, I didn't feel like I was in control. I knew LoL was similar and also popular so I gave it a try and got hooked.

My (now ex) boyfriend at the time said "here play this super fun game with me."

I believe it was around the time Sona was released. We played for a little bit, but I was too confused so I ditched it. I came back to League after a while and actually started to enjoy it. Played AD Annie bot lane and rushed Trinity Force.

It was a good time.

Needed a f2p game, remembered seeing the New Dawn trailer on Game Informer and having heard buddies buzz about it a bit. Gave it a try - come from an RTS background. Been hooked since, finding it a good mix of RTS and Unreal Tournament in feel, and developing a love for the character design and lore.

I tried the game when vi was released, as a break from wow. It didn't stick.

Later, a couple of friends I was playing minecraft with convinced me to have another try. I was so pissed at the game until I found smartcast. I kept wondering, "Why the hell cant I cast?"

I was just curious about LoL since my friends were playing it. I still remembered one of my Bronze friends told me to build Dcap and Athene's for Ryze. Holy ****.
