Season Three Nostalgia
From Stark's Fervor to the removal of Surge and Promote ( and the addition of Barrier) these are all the things you may or may not remember about season three! Feel free to add things in the comments below
At the beginning of Season three Riot sent out a newsletter and it looked something like this
Season 3 brings even more ways to experience competitive League of Legends. There's a lot going on, from ranked play changes to an all-new pro league, so here's a snapshot of the action this season:
We’ve replaced the ranked ladder with a new league system. Check out this infographic to get the lowdown on the tiers, divisions and leagues that you’ll battle in. Ascend to the Challenger tier as part of the path to pro, and you'll have the chance to join the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS).
**The all-new, pro League of Legends Championship Series kicks off February 7. Teams from North America and Europe will compete each week, staking their claim on spots in the World Championship. **
Along with live coverage of the weekly matches, we’ve launched a new esports website with stats, team profiles, analysis, VODs and more.
(note that the infographic is the only link that was actually in this E-mail, the others are expired and have been replaced with reference links) They didn't tell us about Phreak's puns of damage.
And there it was, the kick-starter to a great season and a healthy professional scene, however Rito wasn't done messing with the game, some early changes were made - some that would eventually lean to the fall of the assassin meta at the end of S3. Minion gold gain was changed and leaning into season 4, gold from champions were reduced. This gave rise to the wave clearer's and as a result, those champions got nerfed.
Aatrox was released and played competitively, level 2 tower dives all around, and the R.I.P Galio patch came out too (removal of Zhonya's Ring)
Other items were removed as while, one of the most infamous being Cloak and Dagger
Yes, most people looking at that right now are thinking "is that non-unique tenacity I see before me" Yes, Yes, Yes. It is.
It was not uncommon for an ADC against a high CC team to have 2 or even 3 of these items. The reason why high CC teams were almost never played, it was all about fast killing and carry potential. Leblanc, The Deceiver
and Kassadin, The Voidwalker
were very contested picks because of their Silence, mobility and high burst. Akali was played when these two were banned and Talon was a counter to Riven. (Ah, the good old days)
About champion roles, I lost a good amount of games due to Master Yi support - though this wasn't uncommon and beggers can't be choosers but I really like what riot has done for the role over the years, to be honest it feels good to be more than a walking ward dispenser in a game. In an Average 30 minute game the support would have put down around 45-50 wards. Some people might think I'm joking but you could have stacks of 10 wards in your bag.
Oh and Check out the season 3 bans
People didn't like champions that could teleport from top to bot lane in 3 seconds and then be able to teleport back to top, after all, teleport was a useless summoner spell and there was no reason to take anything other than ignite at top. At least until pro teams were using teleport compositions, then it was the best!
on a more serious note, teleport was a much different summoner and unwarded bushes were dead man's territory. If a person was teleporting, you wouldn't be able to see it unless you had vision of the brush, you couldn't even see people attacking from the brush.
Since it's not really viable for me to remind everybody about everything that happened in season three, I'm hoping that we get a lot of stuff on here. Always remember ![]()
