Support itemization is just sad

As it is, once you get late game with item 2045, it feels more like a waste of space than a good item. The only thing it brings to the table is wards. Besides that, it's not really a good item at all. Also, for squishy, more poke oriented supports, it feels like a waste of a possible item if anything. Why not make it somewhat like the jungle itemization where depending on your champion, you can build accordingly to what you need. If you changed it this way, you might actually see other roles picking up the item, because who wouldn't want a few extra wards if the item actually could help your kit also.

I seem to remember riot wanting everyone to ward, not just the supports, yet they keep hammering in this ideal that supports should have the shittiest item load outs, and should only be seen as useful if they ward everything for the entire team.

Itemization in general, is just overall weak at best for supports. If you build anything other than the meta support items, people will rage at you. Why should supports be completely ignored when it comes to damage output. Yes, they shouldn't be able to oneshot anyone on the rift, but they shouldn't also be completely screwed if it comes down to having to defend themselves. Have you ever watched 2 supports battle it out? If they're both building like "they're supposed to", the battle takes so long it's ridiculous. I'm not asking for supports to be able to 1v5 the enemy team, I would just like to have the items I buy be worth the purchase throughout the whole game. Supports already have many disadvantages, why also set them back 1-2 item slots?

I agree that late game you sometimes are at a loss as to what to do build wise when your two weakest links in stats are Ruby Sight Stone and Talisman of Ascension. They just both bring so much great utility, I can't justify replacing either. Especially sight stone. I usually play tank supports, but when you're sitting on 2k unspent gold with not your first elixir active, and your biggest damage item is a sunfire cape, it makes you wish you could at least get some more out of the lower cost items in your build.

I dunno man, first world support problems, but it's such a waste to sit on so much gold
