Which support should I buy next and why? Also, do you think I should wait for a new champ release seeing as the last champs they released in quick succession. Azir which was quickly followed by Rek'Sai?

Lulu is easier to learn while Thresh takes more skill and decision making.

If you only want a support, Thresh is a much more consistent pick. He's does alright in most lanes, he's got some fun mechanics. You feel a little invincible when you play him. Lulu is alright as a support, but her range is short and she's not really tanky. Whimsy isn't really as useful as it sounds, and her harass can be lackluster depending on the lane. But she's really fun top! With a bit of farm, her harass REALLY hurts, and her short range isn't a problem top.

Lulu. Thresh has hard engage and a sweet rescue in his lantern, but Lulu can shield (good for early trades), a poke and slow that can be aimed differently if you Pix someone (more range/different angle, it's nice), and whimsy is not too shabby for escapes or foiling ganks.

Her ultimate can be used to clutch a hard engage, and can be used on anyone (even the tank!).

Let's weigh their pros and cons.

Lulu Pros:

  • Lots of utility: Speed boosts, three different slows, two of which can affect multiple targets, a heal, a knock-up, and a shield and damage booster.
  • Excellent poke; one goes through minions and the other is a direct target spell.
  • Tons of crowd control; one is an anti-cloak ability, and the other, at max rank, disables an enemy's attack for three seconds(!).
  • Incredible pushing power.
  • Versatile: Can even function as a powerful ADC, APC or even ASC.
  • A yordle.

Lulu Cons:

  • Extremely squishy: She melts to assassins like butter in Palm Springs.
  • High skill gate: To use her to her fullest extent, you need to really practice with her.

Thresh Pros:

  • Excellent displacer: Can grab both enemies AND allies.
  • Can farm without killing minions
  • A shield
  • Sticks to the enemy like industrial adhesive.
  • High damage output
  • A good tank
  • Combined with a good ADC is TERRIFYING.

Thresh Cons:

  • Average to poor lane clear
  • Relic Shield, despite him being a tank, is a terrible item on him because he can't proc the execute.
  • Very poor early game.
  • High damage requires investing in items that rarely benefit his utility.
  • His anti-escape skills work against him when HE'S trying to escape.
  • GRAB THE LANTERN!

Thresh is a more reliable support that works well with virtually any team comp. Lulu is I'd say an average support but is more flexible a pick overall as she's an amazingly safe and reliable solo laner.
