You had a bad game...

Then after getting cussed out by your whole team, you decide to mute them. You promptly receive a verbal abuse warning notification from the client.

Although you won't get banned from this because this doesn't happen often, this is just ridiculous and a bit frustrating. What the hell? I just wish you'd actually ban or punish that kind of people instead of sending someone that doesn't even respond that kind of garbage.

I think it worth mentioning that the pop-up warnings don't show up immediately following the game that triggers them. There's an unknown delay between the triggering report and the display of the warning.

Additionally, they aren't triggered by any individual report (or even an individual game), but rather due to "spikes" in reported games against an account.

In short, it's extremely unlikely that the warning you received was related to the game you're referencing.

Though I do have to admit that Riot could stand to be a little more clear about how those warnings work.

Someone reported you for verbal abuse after you "just muted" them?
